There is probably something about your house you'd like to change before you have people over.
The kitchen.
The sofa.
The paint.
The rug that has seen things.
Maybe you've actually said:
“Once we finish ______, we'll have everyone over.”
But houses are never really finished.
By the time you paint one room, another needs something.
The new sofa eventually becomes the old sofa.
And the kitchen renovation you're dreaming about will someday be dated, too.
Meanwhile, life is happening.
Your parents are getting older.
Your children are building lives of their own.
Friends move.
Neighbors change.
The people available to sit around your table today may not be the exact same people available five years from now.
So don't make them wait for the countertops.
Clean the bathroom.
That's enough. 😉
Order the pizza.
Put something pretty on the table.
Dim the lights if necessary.
Then open the door.
Because nobody leaves a wonderful evening saying:
“The company was fantastic, but that backsplash really ruined it for me.”
They remember how they felt.
Whether they laughed.
Whether they could relax.
Whether somebody poured another glass and said:
Stay a little longer.
Make your home beautiful because you enjoy it.
But don't wait for beautiful to become perfect before you live there.
People make a house ready.
Invite them.
