Hearken, noble Lords and Ladies of the Realm,
With heavy hearts and solemn countenance, we must needs proclaim that the Malad Valley Renaissance Faire hath met its end. Though but two fleeting seasons did we revel in mirth and merriment, those years were wondrous indeed, and we wist that fate had favored us with a fairer course. Yet, alas! The winds of fortune have not blown in our favor, for our hallowed grounds have failed to garner the blessing of the Malad County’s Planning and Zoning Council.
Thus, were we to proceed, we should do so under naught but a frail and fleeting verbal concession, a most uncertain foundation upon which to build our grand design. Were this trial alone our burden, mayhap we wouldst have pressed forward yet. But lo! The coffers doth weigh heavily upon our hands, for the cost of securing our venue hath risen most grievously. With a year of silence past, we stand without clear augury of the Realm’s response, and so the perils of proceeding outweigh the means of our endeavor.
Owing to these tribulations, we find ourselves unable to hold claim upon Heritage Square and Crazy Cow Farms. As for the fairgrounds of this land, we find them ill-suited to our purpose, despite the fortune others have found therein. And with the ordinances passed in Oneida County, we are left with no grounds upon which to lay the foundation of our revelry.
Yet let not thy hearts be wholly cast down, for amid the darkness, a new dawn doth rise! We have labored in secret, forging grander designs and mightier schemes in lands yet to be revealed. Though it be too soon to speak of them in full, know this—our spirit hath not waned, nor hath our love for the wonders of history and fantasy. The Malad Valley Renaissance Faire may have drawn its final breath, but the dream yet lives! Keep thine eyes keen and thine ears open, for anon shall we bring forth tidings of a new and greater faire, grander than before, and perchance longer in its revels.
We thank thee, noble friends, for thy steadfast loyalty and boundless cheer. Go forth, and lend thy favor to our sister faires across the land, for we have walked among them and found them each a beacon of delight and wonder. Until we meet again upon fairer fields, we bid thee farewell.
God save the Realm, and may fortune favor us yet!
