Late August farm dump!

Some behind the scenes before we enter our busy wedding season. So many projects still left undone but lots of work under our belts for this season. We have had such a good crop year for foxglove, Canterbury bells and scabiosa! And our number one struggle has been sunflowers
everyone ate them, grubs, mice, and rabbits.

There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes besides picking flowers. Thinking about next year’s plans, bulb + seed orders, tunnels, keeping up on ordering design supplies and keeping loads of buckets clean while still managing the daily workload of our peak season including the very satisfying puzzle that is figuring out where all our product goes each week.

We’ve spent a lot of time growing our wholesale. A side of the business not a lot of people get to see. It’s one of our favorite parts of growing flowers, we are perfectionists to a fault and love sending off tall stemmed bunches to other true flower lovers :) support your local florists who buy local!

The cooler has been kicking ass and making our operation a million times smoother and gives us hope for the future! More room to store blooms and way less stress on us to harvest stems with tight turn around.

In August we had markets and a bloom bar and our summer class at the Duluth Folk School where we dove into garden inspired floral design. It’s always a lot of fun to share and talk about what we are passionate about at our farm.

Aaaand we got hats made locally by Duluth Screen Printing Co. get yours and join the Prairie Rose Club. You can find them at our markets or on the website for farm pick-up/ shipping.

Also we went to Madeline island and had our first overnight getaway together off the farm this season. It’s hard to leave but worth it. Loving this time of year even though we are tired. It feels good to be exhausted by what we love đŸ€

Just a few farm photos cuz she’s so pretty right now!

There are so many reasons to choose local flowers and support florists who choose local! We are committed to chemical free flowers, grown in tandem with the seasons no matter the bug pressure, the weather, the diseases we work with it. Every year things shift with what ends up being our best crops and that is part of the beauty. Looking at what went well last year vs this year and noticing how environmental factors played a role. Some flowers love heat, some hate too much water and some really like to be cool. We are at the whim of systems greater than us which proves to be a constant lesson.

This time of the year we always start thinking about our next year’s crop plan and can’t wait to start over. But it’s also fun to watch the tangles and decay as the farm enters its final stages.

See you at the Carlton County Farmers Market tomorrow 9-12. There are just a few spots left in our fall share, thank you to new members we can’t wait to share the harvests with you!

Loving cooler night temps so we can offset our morning harvest workload. The glow on the sweet pea and nicotiana is everything. Most of the time we are working when it’s stark and hot with the sun right overhead and everywhere looks like a problem area and then the day fades, hummingbirds come out and so many pockets are illuminated. It’s a nice reminder for us to put aside the million to dos and enjoy the garden for that window in the evening.

We will be at Wild State Cider today from 11-3 for their Treat yo’ Self Summer market! Beautiful August bounty and herbal oils and salves fresh from our farm!

And here’s your reminder our fall share is approaching quickly
a chance to enjoy the waning seasonđŸ€
