Exciting progress continues at the Eastmorland Community Center!

This past week brought major updates to one of the building’s most unique features—the barrel roof. As it takes shape, you can really start to feel how the high, open ceiling will create a bright and welcoming space, perfectly reflecting the inclusive spirit of the community center itself.

With so much activity on site, something new is happening every
week—and the transformation is becoming easier to see with each visit.

Garden volunteer and neighbor, Lissa McLaughlin took some time to answer my questions.

What are you most looking forward to at the new ECC?

I can't wait to meet more quirky, caring, neighbors at the ECC, including families from the new apartments. I also look forward to seeing who will occupy the administrative/retail/educational spaces at the site.

What is a favorite memory from the old building?

A favorite memory is working with kids attending Common Grace’s Sunday School and helping maintain the community garden. My teammates supporting such efforts are amazing.

Why do you choose to give your time?

Tornadoes of intolerance and suspicion seem to surround us these days. But not at the ECC. It's a safe and lovely oasis of understanding and possibility. Long may it thrive!

A fun fact?
I live close by, and get to see the horizon change everyday, thanks to all the construction!
