Obviously National Dessert Day is one of my favorite days of the year!

Dessert is one of my talking points in almost every consultation I have. I always tell people: "If you don't like cake, don't get cake!" There are so many choices out there for desserts....and other vendors! Your event should be about what you love, not about some need-to-have tradition that doesn't really mean anything to you.

So here's to having your cake....or ice cream, cookies, donuts, whatever....and eating it too.

Happy Coffee Day! Looking for something unique that your guests will raving about? Try a custom coffee bar during cocktail hour or dessert. Cafe Domestique showed up to help caffeinate the crowd and had a delightful menu of specialty lattes and stamped each cup with a custom design. Such a great addition to the day!

While it was one of my bigger weddings of the year, it was also one of the more intimate somehow. This gorgeous winter wedding at the Memorial Union was one for the books. The couple had met in high school in Madison and jobs and life had taken them out to New York. They planned the wedding mostly from out of state, and every detail was precisely considered. The most special moments were the first dances where they had put together some montages of old home videos with their parents that showed on the large projector screens while they danced. The absolutely highlight though was that the bride wrote, performed, and produced their first dance song, only to be followed up by multiple duets sung by the bride, the groom and her sister with their awesome live band. The music you unfortunately can’t see in the pictures, but you’ll notice that every detail was so well thought out and beautifully executed from the towering Christmas trees to the custom menus and bar napkins to the hand crafted coaster name cards. And truthfully, all the credit goes to Cosette (and Max) for their vision and precision in bringing it all together.

Did you know that we also help coordinate company holiday parties?!?!🎄🎁⛄🎅 Now's the time to start getting your holiday gathering planned!

This is a throwback to a company I party I did with Zendesk last December!
My initial calls with this planning committee had me really excited. I always love a good theme party. The theme this year was “An Old Fashioned Good Time” and the East Side Club was just the venue to pull that off. With retro accents and furniture from Event Essentials including my favorite floral couch (or ‘davenport’ and my great aunt used to call it) plus some great wintry centerpieces and a customized menu from Blue Plate, complete with jello bars and bumps on a log, this party was definitely on theme. We even hosted a meat raffle with everything from lil’ smokies to thick cut local bacon. I’m so glad I got to be a part of this fun event and hope that the vintage vibes were everything they hoped for!

December weddings are always a toss up. Do you steer into the holiday vibes with pine and holly or do you do something totally different? Janelle and Matt opted for a very classic look that complimented their venue perfectly. White with gold and green accents were perfect at The Eloise and the custom arches built by Janelle’s dad totally made the day. I was obsessed with these gorgeous pieces, strung with sparkling stones to add just a little extra twinkle to their day. Plus, these two were just the sweetest people. It was the perfect winter wedding.

I started working with Maggie and Matt about 8 months before their wedding to talk about vendors and design and work through the planning process with them. Every now again, I get the chance to work with a couple that I just really vibe with. Like, we should be friends. Maggie and Matt fit this mold. Our personalities worked well together and they were so laid back throughout the process. They had a vision in mind and didn’t care if it followed tradition or not. They had such a fun cocktail-style reception and after the formalities were finished the party definitely got…informal. They had some fun dance floor traditions with their friends and at one point someone came over to me and said that a guest just dropped the bride. My brain went into emergency mode immediately and when I found her she was laughing and dancing on the floor! Turns out, it was just a piggy back ride gone south, but who drops the bride on her wedding day?! And what an awesome bride to just get up and laugh about it. These two were truly gems to work with and I wish them all the best as they continue their fun together. I sincerely hope our paths cross again, friends.

I had the opportunity to work with Katherine on some non-profit events and so when I found out I was also working with her for her wedding I was thrilled! Katherine and Paul had a really incredible and relaxed wedding day at Tripp Commons in the Memorial Union. Their focus was clearly each other and their families. During the planning process, Katherine mentioned that they’d be getting pies (and Babcock ice cream) for dessert. She said she really wanted to serve the pies. It’s not often that a couple requests to work on their wedding day, but that was what she wanted and it worked out perfectly! It was so much better than a receiving line and is such a testament to Katherine and Paul’s giving and serving hearts. Plus, when I checked in with her to see how it was going in the dessert line she told me “this actually is working out perfectly since I’m not a hugger so it gives me a chance to say hi to everyone but….also a little space.” I LOVED that for her! (And I will now be recommending dessert service to many of my couples!) Thank you so much for trusting me with your big day, I hope it was everything you hoped!
