Running a small business isn’t for the faint of heart. People see the pretty photos and finished products, but what they don’t often see is the hours of planning, sourcing, communication, product ordering, and mental energy that go into every single order — especially the big ones.
This week has been a tough one. A large event order that I had already spent hours planning, customizing, ordering supplies for, and scheduling around was canceled just 4 days before the event. No matter how much passion I have for what I do, moments like this are absolutely crushing.
For small businesses, a last-minute cancellation isn’t just an open space on a calendar — it can mean:
• Product already ordered that can’t be returned
• Hours of planning and design work lost
• Turning down other paying clients for that date
• Time away from our family that we can’t get back
• A deep emotional hit after pouring our heart into something
This isn’t a hobby. This is my livelihood and my only job outside of being a mom first. It helps feed my family, put clothes on my kids, and take a little financial stress off my husband.
So if you’re reading this, I just want to say:
💛 Please honor small business policies like deposits and cancellation terms — they exist for a reason.
💛 Please understand the creative energy and work that goes into your order long before the delivery day.
💛 Please show kindness — because behind every small business is a real human who truly cares.
To my loyal customers who respect the craft, communicate, and support small: THANK YOU! You’re the reason I keep going even on the hardest days. 🤍
— Small business owners feel this deeply, and today I just needed to say it out loud.
