After hearing about what happened in the café this morning, I feel like I need to say something.

If you know me, you know my heart. This little café has never just been about food. It’s about community, kindness, and creating a place where people feel welcome. If something isn’t right with your meal or your experience, all you have to do is tell us. We can’t fix what we don’t know, and I will always do everything I can to make it right.

What I won’t do is stand by while someone verbally abuses my employees or my guests.

I wasn’t here yet this morning—I was out picking up the rest of my meat and produce orders for tonight’s event and the Fourth of July—but my girls handled themselves with more grace than they ever should have had to.

A guest became verbally abusive, yelling at my employees and then at other guests who were simply setting up for their class reunion. A full refund was given, but a refund doesn’t give anyone the right to disrespect the people around them.

Here’s the thing… I have three employees besides myself, and they each work minimal hours. They’re good people. They show up, they care, and they work hard. They don’t come to work to be yelled at, cussed at, or made to feel small. And my guests certainly don’t come here to be caught in the middle of it.

I believe in giving grace. I believe in second chances. I believe in treating people the way I’d want to be treated. But don’t mistake my kindness for weakness.

This café is my home away from home, and the people in it—my employees and my guests—are my responsibility. I’ll always go out of my way to make things right, but I will also protect the atmosphere we’ve worked so hard to build.

If you have a problem, talk to us. We’ll listen. We’ll do our best to fix it. But if you choose to scream, swear, or verbally abuse the people in my café, you’ll be asked to leave, and you won’t be welcomed back.

To everyone who stood up for my girls today, thank you. You reminded them, and me, that there are still far more good people than bad in this world.

We’ll keep doing what we do best: serving good food, welcoming good people, and treating everyone who walks through these doors with kindness and respect.
