First Woman Representative: Shirley Chisholm was the first African American woman elected to the House of Representatives. She was elected in 1968 and represented the state of New York. She broke ground again four years later in 1972 when she was the first major party African American candidate and the first female candidate for president of the United States.

In 1940, Hattie McDaniel became the first Black person to win an Oscar, for her supporting role in Gone With the Wind.

Twenty-four years later, Sidney Poitier became the first Black man to win an Oscar, for his leading role in Lilies of the Field.

A Touch of Elegance thanks First Lady Lorrie Witcher and FCOJ for the opportunity to do what we love to do. Today our "Kingdom Women in denim and pearls" centerpieces was a vision we had for this conference and happy to say they were received well.

We had a blast celebrating with Diamond and Chris as they are awaiting the arrival of our "Lady Bug."
