For 120 years, the Historic Academy Theatre has been part of Lynchburg's story.

This week, that legacy was recognized by the Virginia General Assembly with a Senate Commending Resolution honoring the theatre's contributions to arts, education, historic preservation, and community life throughout the Commonwealth.

Since opening in 1905, the Historic Academy Theatre has welcomed generations of audiences, artists, students, and community members through its doors. Through times of change and growth, it has remained a place where people gather to experience the power of the arts.

Today, as the home of the Academy Center of the Arts, the theatre continues to inspire creativity, foster connection, and serve as a cultural cornerstone for Central Virginia.
We are grateful to the generations of artists, educators, volunteers, patrons, donors, staff, and supporters who have helped shape this remarkable place.

As we reflect on 120 years of history, we are reminded that the work of connecting our community through the arts continues.
