The sheep went on their first field trip. 🐑🥹

We packed up two of our Poppy sheep (Blueberry and Pancakes) and headed to a local preschool to meet a whole bunch of tiny humans and it was every bit as sweet as you’d imagine.

But underneath all the fluffy cuteness, there was intention.

We practiced noticing. How wool feels under our hands. How the sheep move and communicate. What sounds we could hear. What we noticed in our own bodies when we slowed down, got curious, and paid attention.

It’s one of the simplest ways we can practice regulation: getting out of our heads and back into our senses, with a little help from nature (and cute sheep). 🤍

This was our first time taking Poppy sheep out into the community like this, and definitely not our last.

It only took a couple minutes!! Then back to the 847 other projects…

First attempt at preserving our dahlias in silica crystals and I have absolutely no idea how this is going to turn out, but my algorithm definitely thinks I should try it. And everyone makes it look easy.

But this is basically how Poppy gets built: have an idea → immediately create another project → figure it out as we go.

Nobody warns you that chasing a beautiful dream can be full of soo much chaos.

Turns out “follow your dreams” sometimes looks like dead mice, broken fences, dogs escaping through windows, grief showing up when you least expect it, and trying not to cry over a houseplant on the studio floor. (But I gave in and cried anyway)

So often two things can be true (bc the dahlias really are stunning).

We’re building this little flower farm in real time… with three kids, a small flock of sheep, two insane puppies, 16 chickens, questionable amounts of chaos, a whole lot of life happening behind the pretty pictures, and absolutely no idea what’s going to go wrong next.

as we think they are.

The past few weeks we’ve been fall sowing flowers for next season, then rolling burlap over them to help protect the seeds, hold moisture, and keep everything in place while we wait for winter to do its thing.

It’s definitely an experiment, and so many parts of farming are putting so much work into something that looks like absolutely nothing right now.

Then hoping it turns into hundreds of flowers by early spring!

Come regenerate these six acres with us. We’ve got a lot of work to do… 😅🥰🫶

Turns out when you’re building a community-centered farm, the community actually helps you build it 🥹
