After nine years of the purple hair, big shoes and a red nose I have decided to retire Sweet Petunia the Clown. On Saturday 9/20 I will be in Salem, IN for their Bicentennial Celebration and then I go to the Visually Impaired Preschool Services event to make balloon animals. On Sunday 9/21 for one last time I will sit at my makeup table and become Sweet Petunia the Clown. My final event is doing balloon twisting at the Baptist Health Fair in LaGrange. Sometimes I wonder just how I managed to last this long doing the same thing, wearing the same clothes, same look (makeup), and that awful glue for my big red nose, but then all I have to do is look back at how it all started….
I earned my Dumb-ploma from Clown School in January 2005. From the very moment I put that purple wig on I knew who I was... and that’s when Sweet Petunia the Clown was born. After doing my 1st birthday party I was hooked and started "All Around Clowning". For several years I entertained thousands of children and adults at schools, day cares, nursing homes, store openings, picnics, festivals and birthday parties. In 2009 I wanted to do more than clowning so I changed the business name to "Fun Theme Parties". Oh sure for a couple of years I got to be a pirate, cowgirl, super hero, princess, Dora, a wizard, dinosaur hunter, hula girl and a tea party hostess, but it was always Sweet Petunia the Clown who was in big demand....so I stopped "Fun Theme Parties" and now I am just "Sweet Petunia the Clown".
It’s been a long ride, but it has come to an end and I can’t tell you how much I have loved hearing all the giggles and laughter coming from kids as well as the adults. Just seeing the smiles I have put on so many faces has made it all worth it. Although I am sad to see Sweet Petunia go I just want to say to all the kids who gave me hugs and so much love I thank you and I’ll never forget you.
Keep Smiling…..Sweet Petunia the Clown.
