Sweet Petunia the Clown

Sweet Petunia the Clown Sweet Petunia the Clown is retired as of March 2014. Pretty as a Petunia and Sweet as can be she used to perform magic and was as fun as can be.

But the time has come to say goodbye. Sweet Petunia the Clown retired in March 2014. Wanted to leave page up for everyone to enjoy! I was so excited in 2004 when the Kentucky Derby Festival started a new clown training class; I knew I had to be a part of that. Being the chicken that I am I wasn't sure if I could go through with it, but I decided to put my fears aside and off to Clown College I wen

t...and thus Sweet Petunia the clown was born. It took a long time to find a look that matched Sweet Petunia's personality, but I finally did. After that I fell in love with sharing the art of magic and comedy with children of all ages. In 2006, after 20+ years as a Social Worker I started my own children's entertainment business. I have spent years of entertaining over 10,000 children and adults at birthday parties, picnics, shopping centers, festivals, daycare centers, and summer workshops.

After nine years of the purple hair, big shoes and a red nose I have decided to retire Sweet Petunia the Clown. On Saturday 9/20 I will be in Salem, IN for their Bicentennial Celebration and then I go to the Visually Impaired Preschool Services event to make balloon animals. On Sunday 9/21 for one last time I will sit at my makeup table and become Sweet Petunia the Clown. My final event is doing balloon twisting at the Baptist Health Fair in LaGrange. Sometimes I wonder just how I managed to last this long doing the same thing, wearing the same clothes, same look (makeup), and that awful glue for my big red nose, but then all I have to do is look back at how it all started….

I earned my Dumb-ploma from Clown School in January 2005. From the very moment I put that purple wig on I knew who I was... and that’s when Sweet Petunia the Clown was born. After doing my 1st birthday party I was hooked and started "All Around Clowning". For several years I entertained thousands of children and adults at schools, day cares, nursing homes, store openings, picnics, festivals and birthday parties. In 2009 I wanted to do more than clowning so I changed the business name to "Fun Theme Parties". Oh sure for a couple of years I got to be a pirate, cowgirl, super hero, princess, Dora, a wizard, dinosaur hunter, hula girl and a tea party hostess, but it was always Sweet Petunia the Clown who was in big demand....so I stopped "Fun Theme Parties" and now I am just "Sweet Petunia the Clown".

It’s been a long ride, but it has come to an end and I can’t tell you how much I have loved hearing all the giggles and laughter coming from kids as well as the adults. Just seeing the smiles I have put on so many faces has made it all worth it. Although I am sad to see Sweet Petunia go I just want to say to all the kids who gave me hugs and so much love I thank you and I’ll never forget you.
Keep Smiling…..Sweet Petunia the Clown.

I am so sad....I posted comments about 2 events I had 8/23 and 8/30 and they have disappeared. I don't remember what I wrote, but wanted everyone to know about the wonderful little girl who celebrated her 7th birthday in Versailles, KY. I hope you got to see before it vanished :')

I had birthday parties on Sat 8/9 and Sun 8/10. Earlier Sat I spent 4 hours inside the Republic Airline Hanger twisting balloons and it was hot!! Then I went to Mt. Washington to do a magic show and balloons for a 10 year sweet little girl named, Maddie. I also made a new friend, Joel he is a special 10 year old little boy who wanted me to know how much he enjoyed the magic show and watching me. I found out he is getting ready to have open heart surgery on 9/10 for the 2nd time and I wanted to do something special. Unfortunately, the hospital uses Kosair clowns and won’t allow me to visit…so I sent him my picture and told him to keep it by his bed and know he is in my thoughts and prayers and if he needed a smile…just look at me.

Sunday I went to Sellersburg, IN for the 3rd birthday of a real cute little girl who loved being up front and center. She liked being silly and helping Sweet Petunia make the magic happen. All the children at both parties seemed to enjoy the magic show and I know they loved the balloons. They were good kids and made my time there very enjoyable.

Yesterday I went to Crestwood Methodist Church to do a magic show. This was a special treat for the kids in the music camp. It went well and the kids were great. Lot of fun!!

A few minutes ago a lady called to set up details for her party on 7/19. I never had her scheduled and now that day is not open. She called last month for information, but never gave me any details except date she wanted. She said that she asked me to hold that date for her, but I would not have done that. I never hold a date or time for someone unless they are ready to schedule and eventually she was not ready to schedule or I would have it written down. I really feel bad, but in the beginning I held days or times for people until they could call back to complete scheduling and lost money most of the time. Usually they never called back or when I contacted them at the last minute they changed their minds and I had already turned down other people for the same day so that means no work...no money.:( I hope she finds someone else to help at her daughter's party, but I never hold dates open for someone who is not ready to schedule.

Yeah got out in time...sort of...the party was 9-10 pm and I was in my car on the way home between 10:30 and 10:45. Was a good party and the little boy was having a blast.

I am such a wimp... the party on river rd was for 1 1/2 hours and I was determined not stay past that. Well, there were a lot of kids and I did balloons first and then tried to do a 20 minutes magic show (which means I had to cut out a few tricks), but still didn't get out on time. Even during the show kids balloons kept popping and they would cry so their mothers would come up right in the middle of a magic trick and asked if I would make another. How do you say no when a kid is crying?? Some of the kids popped their balloon 2-3 times and I would remake them because the mother's knew how to guilt me into it!! I ended up leaving about 2:45 (45 minutes late) and vowed all the way home....Never Again!! I have another party tonight and we'll see just how tough I am because it is with the same community and maybe some of the same kids. :(

Was at the Galt House last night for a corporate party and just did balloons. I like it when I don't have to dress in clown, but today is different. I have a birthday party in Hayes Kennedy park off River Rd at 12:30 and after come home take off makeup and costume...cool off and then start all over again at 7pm for another birthday party at 9 pm. Long day....... :)
