On May 28th & 29th of 2020 a group of organizers, organizations and people who were just fed up showed up because . We knew should be alive and when the 911 calls with was released, it confirmed our worse fears and removed some of the benefit of doubt our police received.
I want to thank everyone that showed up, stood up, donated, prayed, stayed and loved on us as we help sustain one of the longest civil rights protest in our history. πβ¨οΈπ
I was the leader of & newly elected co-chair of The Kentucky Alliance Against Racist & Political Repression along with Tyra Walker & Dre Dawson. I decided to be a resource, have my team work from Jefferson Square Park and renamed it Park, because we knew the Movement needed a base. No one had all the answers or did it all by themselves, and everyone wanted to do something. It was a complicated mess, both beautiful and ugly but there was more unity & solidarity than anything else.β€οΈ
Things were not perfect and but our corrupt police department and the administration that let it run our city were far from innocent. They used the media to try to control the narrative, but it was our own 502 llive streamers that captured it all. Yes , and too many others were relevant catalysts, but we had our own: , who once worked for the very system that killed her. A first responder, dedicated to saving lives, had her life take through negligence when former Judge Mary Shaw started it all by signing bogus death warrants without scrutiny in minutes. We always knew why we were there. We always had demands. We met people where they were and 3 yrs later we must because . Thank you to the pro bono attorneys & people that worked inside and out. Over 1,000 of us were arrested and some are still fighting related charges. Corruption uses the judicial process to play the long game. So we will keep honoring those lost & push on for justice, equality & an end of
