The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $70 million non-profit performing arts organization has two divisions: TMC Arts and TMC Ops. TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres, on Jerry Moss Plaza, outside at Grand

Park—a 12-acre adjacent green space—in schools and other locations all over Los Angeles County and on a digital platform called The Music Center Offstage. TMC Arts presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as live and digital K–12 arts education programs, workshops, performances, interactive experiences and special events. TMC Ops manages the theatres, the Plaza and Grand Park, which comprise $2 billion in county assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. It's the last weekend to experience Black Planetarium by Kidus Hailesilassie here at .🌍🔭✨ Through breath, movement, atmospheric archive, and a shared listening practice, the installation traces the persistence of collective memory and imagination. This inaugural exhibition was curated by Beata Calińska.

Earlier this year, Black Planetarium was awarded the S+T+Arts Award of Distinction. This exhibition extends Kidus Hailesilassie’s work Ancestral Algorithm, which will be part of Transmediale 2026 | transmediale - festival for art and digital culture berlin — a cartography of 6,500 pictographs, ideographs, syllabaries, alphabets, and iconographs from twenty African languages.

The Music Center and our Board of Directors are deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Frank Gehry. 🤍A groundbreaking architect who reimagined the field, Frank’s profound and courageous artistic vision resulted in the creation of one of L.A.’s most iconic buildings: Walt Disney Concert Hall.

The work Frank did in partnership with the County of Los Angeles and The Music Center in the development of this global landmark not only contributed significantly to all of Los Angeles, but also revitalized Grand Avenue as the center for arts and culture in Downtown. Frank envisioned Walt Disney Concert Hall as a ‘living room for the city.’ This marvelous architectural wonder today is home to the LA Phil, the Los Angeles Master Chorale and numerous community and cultural events.


The Music Center is honored and proud to have had Frank as both a partner and a friend. His support for the arts will live on as an integral part of his legacy, and his incredible buildings will serve as a reminder that we should dream—and create—boldly. ✨

Our Story

As Los Angeles’ performing arts center, The Music Center has served millions of patrons for more than five decades and is one of the largest and most respected performing art centers in the nation. With four world-class resident companies and five exceptional venues, we have enjoyed bringing Los Angeles the very best in music, dance, opera and theatre.

We have also developed models for arts education initiatives that continue to impact students and teachers in and outside of the classroom. From The Music Center’s Spotlight program, an annual scholarship and training program for high school students, to The Music Center On Tour, which brings world-class performing artists to the classroom, The Music Center’s lauded educational initiatives are committed to inspiring the minds of students in Los Angeles County.

As the 21st century has ushered in new ways of communicating and creating, the arts are no longer the exclusive purview of those who purchase tickets to sit in a concert hall or theatre. The Music Center is one of the first arts organization to recognize this with a slate of innovative low-cost or free arts programming that is relevant to a range of audiences and interests. These successful programs engage the community and bring the arts alive. Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours, Dance DTLA, Grand Park + The Music Center’s 4th of July Block Party, and N.Y.E.L.A. are all designed to gather and connect people across lines of race, ethnicity, gender, class and age in an interdisciplinary and multi-sensory art experience, engaging thousands of Angelos.
