The Music Center convenes artists, communities and ideas with the goal of deepening the cultural lives of every resident in Los Angeles County. The $70 million non-profit performing arts organization has two divisions: TMC Arts and TMC Ops. TMC Arts, The Music Center’s programming engine, provides year-round programming inside The Music Center’s four theatres, on Jerry Moss Plaza, outside at Grand

Park—a 12-acre adjacent green space—in schools and other locations all over Los Angeles County and on a digital platform called The Music Center Offstage. TMC Arts presents world-class dance with Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, free and low-cost public concerts and events, as well as live and digital K–12 arts education programs, workshops, performances, interactive experiences and special events. TMC Ops manages the theatres, the Plaza and Grand Park, which comprise $2 billion in county assets, on behalf of the County of Los Angeles. “That’s why I’m drawn to dance- it’s moving, always changing.” – Glorya Kaufman

It is with heavy hearts we share that Glorya Kaufman passed away earlier this week. We remember and honor her legacy as an extraordinary champion of the arts, a passionate dance lover, a visionary leader and generous benefactor of The Music Center: Performing Arts Center of Los Angeles and so many other iconic cultural institutions.

Mrs. Kaufman was the catalyst for the growth of The Music Center’s acclaimed dance series, Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, and her generous gift has made it possible for us to bring the joy and beauty of diverse, world-renowned dance into the hearts, minds and souls of countless Angelenos. Her Glorya Kaufman Dance Foundation has supported the growth of other dance programs nationwide, including UCLA’s Glorya Kaufman Dance Theater, The Juilliard School, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance.

We are honored to call Glorya a cherished friend and a devoted supporter of The Music Center’s mission and vision. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Glorya’s family and friends and will dedicate our upcoming 2025 – 2026 season of Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center to honor her legacy.

Our Story

As Los Angeles’ performing arts center, The Music Center has served millions of patrons for more than five decades and is one of the largest and most respected performing art centers in the nation. With four world-class resident companies and five exceptional venues, we have enjoyed bringing Los Angeles the very best in music, dance, opera and theatre.

We have also developed models for arts education initiatives that continue to impact students and teachers in and outside of the classroom. From The Music Center’s Spotlight program, an annual scholarship and training program for high school students, to The Music Center On Tour, which brings world-class performing artists to the classroom, The Music Center’s lauded educational initiatives are committed to inspiring the minds of students in Los Angeles County.

As the 21st century has ushered in new ways of communicating and creating, the arts are no longer the exclusive purview of those who purchase tickets to sit in a concert hall or theatre. The Music Center is one of the first arts organization to recognize this with a slate of innovative low-cost or free arts programming that is relevant to a range of audiences and interests. These successful programs engage the community and bring the arts alive. Sleepless: The Music Center After Hours, Dance DTLA, Grand Park + The Music Center’s 4th of July Block Party, and N.Y.E.L.A. are all designed to gather and connect people across lines of race, ethnicity, gender, class and age in an interdisciplinary and multi-sensory art experience, engaging thousands of Angelos.
