The Texas State Board of Education approved revised high school social studies standards in early September 2026.

The changes require students to learn about Israel’s 1948 founding as the ancestral homeland of the Jewish people.

These changes are part of a larger curriculum overhaul including chronological history from ancient times, required reading of Anne Frank’s diary, Bible passages in literature classes, and emphasis on Texas/U.S. exceptionalism and Christianity’s role.

Driven by pro-Israel advocacy groups, these changes take effect in 2030 for millions of Texas public school students and reflect ongoing efforts to integrate Judeo-Christian perspectives into K-12 education.

The Dr Suess classic — ‘The Cat in the Hat’ — is getting a dark spin in October 2026 with the release of a horror short film. 😳

‘THE CAT AND THE HATCHET’ reimagines the familiar setup as a dark horror story, with two siblings encountering a violent and unpredictable cat named Scratches.

As seen with the Winnie the Pooh horror spin offs, this indie film already has fans talking. No word on the platform for release just yet, but the creators & director (Cameron Dodd) are already pushing for something big with this project.

The lone holdout juror in the trial of has said he "didn't have any doubts" that she was criminally responsible for k-lling her three children.

"Based on all the physical evidence, key witnesses and what the prosecution presents, I thought it was enough proof that she knew exactly what she was doing and planned it," Michael Desronvil said in a statement

The judge declared a mistrial on 4 September after the jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict following nearly 40 hours of deliberating.

Clancy admitted to the k-llings but her lawyers argued she had been suffering from postpartum psychosis. Prosecutors said the k-llings were calculated.

The 36-year-old was charged with three counts of first-degree m-rder after str-ngling Cora (5), Dawson (3), and Callan (8 months) at the family's Massachusetts home before jumping out of the second-floor window.

To find Clancy guilty, jurors had to be unanimously convinced beyond reasonable doubt that she intentionally k-lled her children and that she did not do so as a result of postpartum psychosis, a rare and serious condition.

The jury - 9 women and 3 men - considered a range of options including not guilty by reason of insanity, mansl--ghter and first-degree m-rder.

Several jurors have said following the mistrial being declared that the panel was ultimately divided 11-1 in favour of finding Clancy not criminally responsible.

Desronvil said he believed the evidence presented in court showed she had planned the k-llings, however the other jurors claim he didn't provide any evidence to back his vote.

"I didn't have any doubts," he said in a statement.

Toys “R” Us is making its biggest brick-and-mortar comeback yet

Nearly a decade after the iconic toy retailer filed for bankruptcy and subsequently shuttered its stores across the United States, Toys “R” Us is opening 120 new standalone locations across the country in time for the holiday shopping season.

The expansion, announced in a company press release on Thursday, Sept. 17, is being carried out in partnership with Go! Retail Group and will add 120 locations to the 40 standalone Toys “R” Us stores currently operating in the U.S., bringing the retailer’s total to 160 by the holiday season.

An 18-year-old mother is facing a child abandonment charge after San Antonio police say she gave her baby to a stranger at a downtown bus stop and said she no longer wanted the child.

Police said Karla Ibarra left her son, who is younger than 1, with someone Sunday night at a bus stop near East Travis Street and Broadway.

According to arrest records, the person who was given the baby contacted police and reported what happened. That person told officers Ibarra said she no longer wanted the child.

Police said Ibarra returned to the area a short time later, but officers had already arrived. She was arrested at the scene.

Ibarra is charged with abandoning and end-ngering a child with intent to return.

San Antonio police are continuing to investigate what led up to the incident.

Under Texas’ Baby Moses Law, a parent is allowed to anonymously and legally surrender an unh-rmed newborn who is 60 days old or younger, without facing criminal penalties.

Parents must take the baby to a designated emergency infant care location, such as a fire station, EMS station, or hospital, and physically hand the child to an employee.

Some locations also offer Safe Baby Boxes.

Parents may be asked to provide medical history, but they are not required to share personal information.

Gregory Meeks — the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee — has refused to clear a proposed sale of 40k 2,000 poud b-mbs to Israel.

A federal immigration officer wanted for sh--ting and wounding a Venezuelan man in Minneapolis was arrested ​there on Wednesday, eight months after a confrontation that became a flashpoint over 's deportation sweeps.

Immigration and ‌Customs Enforcement agent Christian Castro turned himself in to agents of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in downtown Minneapolis and was booked into the Hennepin County jail on his outstanding arrest warrant, the agency said.

But a lawyer for the ICE agent, Rolando Cantu, said in an interview that his client always intended to answer to ​the charges in Minneapolis. He disputed Hennepin County prosecutors' assertions that Castro might flee to Mexico, saying, "He wants his day in ​court."

Castro had been released on bond from federal custody earlier this month, wearing a GPS ankle monitor, after an ⁠initial appearance in U.S. District Court in McAllen, Texas, on charges of lying to investigators about the circumstances of the January 14 sh--ting.

Two deputies in Columbiana County, Ohio, were injured Monday afternoon when a man assa-lted them after his sentencing hearing for a prior assa-lt.

Deputies were escorting Timothy Reaggle out of the courthouse when he broke through his handcuffs and p-nched one of the deputies in the throat. Reaggle then tried to escape the building, pushing past another deputy before being t*sed by officers just as he reached the exit. He was taken back into custody.

"It was a pretty hard hit. I was very concerned for the officer. I just tried to think fast and make sure he was OK," said witness Leland Monte.

The sheriff said both deputies s-ffered broken bones but have been released from the hospital. Additional charges against Reaggle are pending.

Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed SB 1392, suitably nicknamed Leno's Law, after the most well-known car collector — Jay Leno — went to bat for changing California's smog check policy.

Beginning Jan. 1, 2028, vehicles from model years 1976 to 1980 will be immediately exempted. Then, each year, the exemption will roll forward by one model year.

By 2033, model years up to 1985 will be exempt. This change to the smog check parameters does not affect pre-1976 vehicles, which were already exempted from testing.

Newsom's office wanted to make it clear, this revision to the smog check law does not apply to just any old car. It has to be a bona-fide classic or collectible - the kind of cars that see limited use.

To qualify, a vehicle must be covered by specific collector car insurance; the companies which write those policies have their own guidelines about usage. Or, an owner must be able to verify that a car in the qualifying age range is driven no more than 1,000 miles annually.

Newsom also pushed for bill AB 2541 - which creates a specialty lowrider license plate that honors one of California’s most iconic cultural traditions while generating funding for youth programs, community arts and cultural organizations. It is a simple idea with the powerful impact on celebrating a tradition that has uplifted communities for generations and reinvest the proceeds back into those same communities.
