Hey all, Kurt again, but hopefully for the last time about this... at 2:00PM today, the doctors discharged . She got to go home to a BIG hug from her granddaughter, River... the thing she has wanted most for so long.
If you want more details, this morning, the doctors came in to tell Barb how happy they were with how her kidneys and liver were returning to full strength and how well her heart was recovering. They explained to her what medicines she would need to start taking and why. Some for a few weeks, some for a few months and some for the rest of her life. They told her everything was looking great and that they saw no reason to keep her there any longer. That she could finally go home.
So after 8 days in the ER, ICU and CCU, after 8 days of IVs, blood tests, 4 huge procedures and some of the scariest days and nights of her life, she went home.
She will have to go back in a week or so for some blood work and tests to make sure it's all holding. The doctors believe it should.
Barb will still be slow going for a few weeks but she'll be back soon, stronger than ever.
Please know that Barb has seen only about 25% of the INSANE love you have all shown her this last week. The calls, texts, emails, DMs, comments, stories, letters, flowers... she is so excited to finally get to read them all. And soon she will come on to thank you all. Also, Barb asks for no flowers/food, just send a card to B Sweet Sawtelle so she can read it.
We also want to thank the AMAZING doctors, nurses, security, cleaning staff and everyone else at that helped save Barb's life. We will be back with desserts and food for you all soon. A few are stuck with Barb for the rest of their lives too ;)
This has been one of the toughest times of my life. It was super hard to see my best friend of 25+ years endure the fear and issues for 2+ months then the worst week of her life. I thank you all for letting me get all this out these last few posts and for reading all the way to the end.
Thank you for loving Barb as much as I do. As much as her family does. Just... thank you.
