What a joy to pronounce Sara and Todd married. They knew each other from the time they were 5 years old!! But as we all know, life takes us on all kinds of journeys that we often never imagined going on. These two reunited after decades, after they both had families of their own, and after unexpected losses. Sara helped Todd plant a garden in his backyard, and the metaphor didn’t escape me; she was helping him, and herself, and their grown children, plant a new garden of love and a new family. The words their kids shared during the ceremony brought me to tears; they were so happy seeing their parents find new love and a new lease on life. Todd and Sara, you are an inspiration to me. Thank you for showing me that as long as we live, we can love. May you have many decades together of love, health, and joy!

In getting to know the couples whose wedding ceremonies I officiate, one of the questions I always ask them is “when did you know that you’d fallen in love?”. Everybody has different answers, obviously. Devyn’s answer really touched me. She said, and I quote, “I felt safe and at ease instead of anxious and worried…..(Isaiah) taught me that life is not always full of inconsistencies”. Wow. Being human is often very challenging, let’s not kid ourselves. To find that special someone in whose presence you can simply drop your guard and let your hair down, and have your feelings be without it always being a showdown is such a gift, and it’s the most perfect foundation for having a marriage rooted in safety and love. I am so honored and fortunate to be able to pronounce couples like this one married. You give me a priceless gift by allowing me to bear witness to your love.

I’m so excited; this is my second year with the Bridal Premiere Wedding Show, coming to you live on Sunday, February 2, 2025, from 11 am - 3 pm at the beautiful Hyatt Regency Hotel in Westlake Village, CA. I’m looking forward to meeting wonderful couples who are getting married in the coming months, and are looking for their perfect wedding officiant. One thing I hear couples say a lot is that they want their wedding officiant to be someone who feels like their BFF, or their favourite relative. I’ve got news for you: when you hire a professional officiant, that person knows how to ask you all the right questions so that it feels like they’ve known you both since you were born!! One of my favorite quotes comes from F.Scott Fitzgerald, who said that “the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function”. While so many Angelenos are trying to figure out how to begin to recover from the devastating wildfires here in LA and Ventura counties, others are joyfully planning their wedding celebration. I strive to be the Wedding Officiant Chaplain who not only is there for on one of the most joyful days of your life, but is also there with you when anything challenging arises; maybe you’re planning for your joyful day even as loved ones or friends have been impacted by the wildfires. To all my fellow SoCal wedding officiants, and other SoCal wedding vendors: I am seeing if there is any interest in creating either a Zoom meeting or an in person meeting for us to come together and talk about/process/share fear, uncertainty, concern, etc. together, over the devastation that has come from the infernos that have engulfed our beloved Los Angeles and Ventura communities. Couples are feeling upended, and so are we. If any of you wonderful vendors have lost venues, and/or equipment, and/or couples, as a result of the fires, I want to create an environment where we can come together, hold space for each other, and process our feelings which will not simply “go away” anytime soon. How do we help the couples we are serving navigate this new reality, that will not get put back together overnight?? If you’re interested in being part of a group for those of us in the wedding industry, please DM me. I could see meeting monthly or….? Certainly more than just once, most likely. I’m writing this post not only as a wedding officiant, but also as a Certified Chaplain. I want to help, and I want to help those in my community of wedding professionals whose job it is to bring joy to those we serve. This is a very challenging time to find joy. It’ll be easier to get through this if we do it together. 2024 was a year of wonderful new beginnings, and I already see many more on the horizon as I look into 2025. I’m thinking of myself more and more as a Marriage Midwife. My job as a Marriage Midwife is to guide and support you as you bring your love and commitment to one another into the world in a new, deeper way - not only spiritually, psychologically, physically, and energetically - but now legally, too! And let me tell you that on the way to your wedding, and certainly after your actual wedding day, you’ll continue to find out more about what love is, about who you are, and what you’re made of. You’ll keep learning about what and where your healthy boundaries are, and you’ll discover why cooperation, compromise, and compassion are so important, not only for a healthy marriage, but also, for a healthy world! I’m so fortunate to get to know each and every one of my couples, and I can hardly wait to get to know you on your way to your wedding!!

I always make sure that couples whose wedding ceremonies I officiate are ok with me posting photos of their big day on social media, as this is such a powerful way to help awesome folks like them find me as well. This couple, Denise and Eric, was very clear that they didn’t want their faces seen; it had to do with work contracts. These pics, however, met with their approval. And I took them, while their “real photographer”, , was also busy doing her thing!! Every picture shot that day captured the pure joy and romance of their elopement, and it was so easy, because this couple is so in love!! Denise and Eric wanted to be legally married here in SoCal before they had their destination wedding ceremony in Cabo San Lucas later that week. I was delighted that they chose me to help them become legally married; they had been spiritually married to one another for 10 years!! An elopement ceremony can be as meaningful and emotionally fulfilling as a larger ceremony. I love elopement ceremonies, and I know that couples feel this. Another couple who recently eloped said this: “It was a beautiful service on the beach, and Mitzi was encouraging of where we chose to get married that felt right to us, and made our elopement very special. It had a lot of meaning and felt full with just the two of us.”. I am so honored and happy to be able to do this sacred work!!

I want to devote this post to one of my favorite photographers. Robyn Richardson, LOVES being outdoors!!! She and I have worked together on several wedding ceremonies over the past couple of years, and she is just fabulous when she’s out in nature!! She’s not afraid to get her feet wet, literally, and she will do all it takes to get the most incredible poses out of her couples. Every photographer has his/her niche and strengths and preferences about where they love being, and the environments they love shooting in. Robyn is a photographer that loves being outdoors, and her creativity shines through in all she does. I’m so honored and happy to work with her to make a couple’s wedding day as fun and natural as it can possibly be!
