Power can demand obedience, but it can’t make us care. It can force silence, but it can’t create trust. It can keep people in line without ever bringing them together.

Controlling people isn’t the same as connecting with them. A world worth living in needs more than obedience, compliance, and conformity. If all we’re doing is falling in line behind authoritarian psychopaths, we haven’t just lost the plot, we’ve mistaken submission for virtue.
