Well it happened .. I got my first “would not recommend” review on Facebook. I am disappointed, not for the fact that I got the review but for the reasons they gave. I admit, for the first time, I really messed up pronouncing the parents of the grooms last name.
This is something I take pride in, getting it right, it’s a sign of respect and a major part of, if not the most important part of my job during introductions. I am beside myself about it. It’s been three days and still bothers me.
I understand that portion of the bad review. I failed.
What I don’t understand is the portion stating to “play the "must hear" music requested by bride and groom”
They gave me 58 songs. I missed one one during cocktail hour. Two of them I straight up didn’t play… every time I went to play them, a song request came in and it went to the back burner. And the other 5 were suppose to be a part of the 2, 5 song sets of disco they provided. I made a game time decision to vary from them both times because it cleared the dance floor and I wanted to keep the energy up and the guests engaged.
Not sure if that was the right call or not but this is not the first time I made a decision to go with my gut and keep the dance floor going. I aways try to circle back, which I did by playing other disco vibe songs hoping to get to their songs, but the response just wasn’t there.
I feel terrible about mispronouncing the names, but looking back at it, if I miss 8 songs of your requested list, I didn’t do too bad. My agreement clearly states that every effort will be made to play your requests but I cannot guarantee it.
Needless to say, it was a great reception, people enjoyed themselves. I got compliments from the wait staff as well as the MOTB. It’s another learning experience.. 16 years in the business and I continue to learn, grow, and develop my skills.
Thank you to everyone that continues to support me!
