Try New Flavors: Next time you are in a kitchen, focus on adding new flavors to your foods. Intead of reaching for table salt to season foods, try a new herb, spice or citrus fruit like lemons, limes or oranges!πŸ‹ 🍊 When you are cooking and you feel a recipe needs more salt, try adding something more acidic like lemon juice to it, promise you won't even miss the salt taste! By cooking with more herbs, spices, and citrus fruits it will improve our heart health and your heart muscle will thank you for it!!

Ever wonder if you could add a plant-based meal to your diet and still feel satisfied?πŸ₯¬ Give it a try by adding one meatless meal per week and see what you think. Beans and lentils are versatile plant-based protein sources that work in many dishes. Try substituting beef, pork, chicken or turkey with beans/lentils. There are so many plant-based dishes to try including: plant-based rice or quinoa bowls, salads, vegetarian chili, black bean burgers and pasta made out of these delicious protein sources. Adding in vegetarian proteins in your diet will not only help diversify you gut bacteria but will also improve your energy, health/longevity and improve sustainability!

If choosing frozen or canned vegetables, make sure to read the food label to make sure it does not contain added sodium from sauces. March is National Nutrition Month (NNM)!πŸ₯• πŸ₯¦ The theme this year from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics is Food Connects Us! Food connects us in so many ways including our culture, family and friends. Sharing a meal with family and friends helps us understand how it was prepared, who made it and where the ingredients are from. There are so many factors that impact our relationship with food including: health, memories, traditions, seasons and access to foods. Make sure to create a positive relationship with food by choosing a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, proteins and dairy products while honoring our cravings.
