Keep your veggies thriving in summer heat!
In USDA Zone 9A, apply organic compost to your vegetable beds now. Spread 1/2 inch of compost over soil. Gently work it in with a rake. Compost adds nutrients and improves soil structure. Water deeply twice a week, early morning. Mulch with straw to reduce evaporation. Happy harvesting in Suwannee County gardens!

Did you know proper pruning can boost blooms?
In North Florida, prune roses after the first flush of spring blooms. Cut back to an outward-facing bud about 1/4 inch above. Disinfect tools between cuts. Apply 1.5 pounds of 10-10-10 fertilizer per 100 square feet of rose bed. Follow with mulch to conserve moisture. Happy rose season in Live Oak!

It is definitely HOT HOT HOT outside. Which is why we want to send out a special thanks to Eric Hammes of Live Oak Quality Goods for donating his time and some supplies to build a filter for our pond. Water is being cleaned as we speak. Thank you Eric, from us and the fish!

Ready to boost your garden's health?
In North Florida, spring heat can stress young plants. Apply 2-3 inches of pine bark mulch around vegetables. It holds moisture and suppresses weeds. Water in the early morning. Aim for one inch weekly. Test soil pH and add garden lime if below 6.0. Watch for aphids on new leaves and spray insecticidal soap. Happy gardening in Suwannee County!
