Did you know our gardens attract monarch butterflies?
Milkweed is the only host plant for their caterpillars. In North Florida, plant swamp milkweed near sunny spots at Heritage Park & Gardens. You’ll spot adult butterflies sipping nectar from coneflowers and lantana too. Monarchs migrate along our Gulf Coast corridor. Plant native blooms and you’ll help these amazing travelers on their journey!

Curious about your soil’s health? A soil test can guide your fertilizing plan in USDA Zone 9A.
Contact your local UF/IFAS extension for a free test kit. Collect samples from 6 inches deep in different areas. This gives you pH and nutrient levels. Amend soil based on results. Apply lime or sulfur as needed. Adjust fertilizer rates for tomatoes, peppers, and ornamentals. Grow strong, healthy plants!

Water deeply twice a week, more if temperatures soar. Check for aphids on leaves and spray with insecticidal soap if needed. Happy growing!

Love fresh herbs straight from your garden?
In USDA Zone 9A, spring is perfect for planting basil, rosemary, and thyme. Use a well-drained soil mix and space plants at least 12 inches apart. Water early in the morning. Add 2–3 inches of mulch to retain moisture and keep weeds down. Feed with a balanced fertilizer once a month. Enjoy flavorful herbs all season long.
