Listen to Arkansas blues women Katrice Newbill, Charlotte Taylor Tina Cossey to Pine Bluff’s Karen Wolfe. Everyone of these great blues artists carries a little bit of the glass ceiling that Wabbaseka City Queen Sylvia shattered.

We are in the final stretch for the big day in Wabbaseka City Saturday September 5th Labor Day weekend Heritage and Scatterfest. And the marker presentation for Sylvia Burton. Our entertainment will be gospel, blues and roots music. What we are looking for today is names of other musicians or musical groups, regardless of genre that has at one time called Wabbaseka home. We know of gospel great Lemmie Battles, blues man Coot Hunley Campbell and the Arledge Brothers Band. Can you help us with more? I remember hearing the past Mayor Reverend George Barnes singing the lowdown blues on a stage ( or trailer) underneath the unemployment tree at one of the first Scatterfest. 🌾 Exploring Reydell, Arkansas 🇺🇸

Today, River Roots took a little trip through Reydell, Arkansas, one of those small Arkansas communities that might be easy to pass by, but has a story worth remembering.

Reydell sits in Jefferson County, surrounded by the farmland and wide open country of the Arkansas Delta. Its history reaches back nearly two centuries, with a post office established here as early as 1842.

For generations, this was a rural farming community, with the land, railroads, and nearby waterways helping connect Reydell to the rest of Arkansas.

And that little post office we found? It may look simple, but places like this were once the heart of communities like Reydell, a place where neighbors gathered, mail arrived, and news traveled.

That’s what we love about exploring Arkansas. ❤️

You don’t always have to find a big city or famous landmark to find history. Sometimes it’s a little post office, a gravel road, a field, and a community that has quietly held onto its roots for generations.

Small places. Big stories.
