Love this so much! 💜💜
One question I get asked almost every day is about the name of the coffee shop.
“Why the name Dry Bones?”
And the truth is… I’ve never felt like I’m very good at explaining it. It’s something that means a lot to me personally, and sometimes it’s hard to put those things into the right words in a quick conversation over the counter.
But the story behind the name goes a little deeper than just a name for a coffee shop.
The name Dry Bones Coffee didn’t come from a business plan or a marketing idea. It came from a season of life.
The thought of the name had crossed my mind a long time ago, but nothing ever came from it. Life moved on, and the idea sat quietly in the background. In more recent years, though, I went through a difficult stretch. I felt betrayed, turned against, and deeply discouraged. There were moments where I felt worn down emotionally and spiritually. I’ve wrestled with seasons of depression, and during those low moments it felt like everything around me had dried up.
During that time, one passage of scripture kept returning to my mind over and over again — Ezekiel 37.
In the Old Testament, the prophet Ezekiel is shown a valley full of dry bones. God asks him if those bones can live again. Ezekiel struggles to even imagine such a thing. The bones were completely lifeless — scattered, dry, and beyond hope. Yet God shows him that what seems impossible to us is not impossible for Him.
God tells Ezekiel to speak to the dry bones.
And this is what the scripture says:
“O ye dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus saith the Lord God unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live.”
— Ezekiel 37:4–5 (KJV)
In the vision, the bones come back together. Breath enters them. What was once lifeless becomes alive again.
That scripture stayed with me.
While my struggles were nowhere near the scale of what that passage describes, the message felt deeply personal. If God can bring life to something as impossible as a valley of dry bones, then He can certainly breathe life back into our difficult seasons, our disappointments, and our worn-down hearts.
Dry Bones Coffee is a reminder of that truth.
It’s a reminder that life can come from dry places.
That hope can return after discouragement.
That good things can grow after hard seasons.
And in a simple way, that’s what we hope this place represents.
A place where people can come in, slow down, share a conversation, and enjoy a really good cup of coffee — a small reminder that life, warmth, and goodness are still very much alive.
Come alive with good coffee. ☕
