What were you doing five years ago today? In your happy place or maybe starting to feel an urge to hoard toilet paper and Clorox wipes. I know I was in my happy place because five years ago today was our first event. The Urban Farmhouse Room was born, inspired by the joy of hosting a bridal shower and the desire to create a space for life’s most precious celebrations.
As an introvert, I’ve always preferred to let my business take center stage, rarely sharing much about myself. But with this five-year milestone, it feels like the perfect time to reflect on the journey that brought me here.
Before starting this business, I was a teacher. While I loved aspects of the work, I eventually burned out from the grind—the kind of job where even bathroom breaks were scheduled. I decided to wait to have children until my early 30s and I was blessed to be home with them for 10 wonderful years. But during that time, I began to feel restless. With years of education and experience behind me, I struggled with feeling like my purpose was limited to being a mom or wife. I wanted to contribute financially to my family, but more importantly, I wanted something that was just mine—something to build, to create, and to be proud of.
Frequent moves for my husband’s job made maintaining friendships difficult, and starting new ones felt even harder. I longed for a sense of community and connection, not just for myself but for others too. That’s where the idea for The Urban Farmhouse Room came to life. This space has allowed me to find my purpose, build something meaningful, and show my daughters that their mom is more than they might have imagined—a dreamer, a creator, and someone willing to follow her ‘why.’
This year is full of milestones for me—five incredible years in business and a milestone birthday of my own in August. It’s a special reminder that it’s never too late to pursue your dreams, embrace change, and step into a new chapter. Cheers to 5 years!
