Crazy to think tomorrow starts my 10th consecutive wedding season.
I remember being a 15-year-old in my parents’ basement stopping and starting songs on iTunes, using a chunky desktop monitor, thinking I knew what the heck I was doing. Later, as I saved up some cash from my summer job, I purchased my first DJ controller. I have always been musically inclined, and when I heard what I could produce digitally, I became excited.
My first “gigs” were high school homecomings and proms, and the occasional summer dance parties at friends’ houses. Before I knew it, I was getting asked to DJ for my friends who were getting married. At 17 I DJ’d my first wedding in front of 700 people! I was freaking out trying to figure how to handle the ins and outs of conducting a wedding, but I made it through, and I loved it!
10 years later, and here I am. 26, going on 27, and now 10 years of weddings under my belt. I have truly seen it all. This passion has taken me all over the country. I’ve had lots of late nights, but even more memories. The people I get to work with have truly turned into some of my best friends. I think that’s what sets me apart. I don’t want to be just another vendor you hire. I truly care about you as a human being. I care about you and the biggest day of your life. I want to create your wedding to be about YOU-because it should be.
I’ve always strived to put my best into everything that I do, however, if I'm being honest, last year was a lot for me. Listen, lots of good happened last year, but 2020 was not kind to lots. Beyond missing out on gigs, I also lost my full-time job, put on 40 pounds, and was completely worn out. I felt like I was going through the motions on a lot of things I was doing, just trying to hang on and get through it.
I'm saying all this now to say: I'm much happier, much healthier, and more excited than ever for all 2021 has to bring. There are so many amazing people I get to celebrate with this year! I’m more rejuvenated and inspired than I ever have been, and I can't wait to share all this energy with all of you.
Thank you to all of you who have supported me along the way. It truly means the world. -SK
