I was reading an article about 2026 wedding trends, #1 was “Private Vows”, sometimes called “Personal Vows”. I first noticed couples using this term in 2025, but I’m sure it’s been going on for years. Personal vows are vows that couples write themselves, which they say to each other in private, instead of during the ceremony. In my experience they still have “I do” or “repeat after me” vows during the ceremony. The first time someone asked me for this, they said they wanted to say their vows privately, not during the ceremony, so I didn’t include vows in my ceremony script. I found out during the rehearsal that they didn’t consider “I do” or “repeat after me” vows as vows, so they still wanted vows in the service! Now, whenever someone asks for “personal vows” I always ask for clarification!
