Sometimes screen-free parenting is the harder choice. 🤍

It means letting them be bored in the car. Sitting through the restaurant wiggles. Hearing the whining in the grocery store. Letting them figure out what to do when there’s nothing instantly entertaining them.

And yes… sometimes it would be SO much easier to just hand over the screen.

But I keep reminding myself: boredom isn’t something I need to fix.

It’s where creativity starts. It’s where kids learn to wait, imagine, play, talk, notice the world around them, and work through uncomfortable feelings.

I’m not trying to make parenting harder just for the sake of being hard. I’m choosing the kind of hard that I believe is building something in my kids. 🤍

I can’t believe you’re 8! 🥹💗

Eight years of your big heart, your bright smile, your creativity, your laughter, and all the little things that make you you. Watching you grow into the sweetest, funniest, most thoughtful girl has been one of the greatest gifts of my life.

Somehow the years keep moving faster, and I wish I could bottle up this version of you forever. The missing teeth, the big dreams, the silly giggles, the hugs, and the way you still need your mom. 🥹

I’m so proud of the girl you are becoming, but I hope you always know, you’ll forever be my little girl.

Happy 8th birthday, sweet girl. 💕 We love you more than you’ll ever know!

If your toddler struggles with numbers, try THIS instead of another worksheet. 🎃👇

Sometimes little learners don’t need more practice sitting with a pencil, they need to touch it, move it, count it, and PLAY with it.

This simple pumpkin activity is such an easy way to make number practice feel like a game. 🧡

Here’s how to make it:

🎃 Cut pumpkin shapes out of orange construction paper
✏️ Write one number on each pumpkin
🧺 Grab mini pumpkin erasers, pom-poms, buttons, or any small manipulatives you already have
🔢 Have your child identify the number, then count out that many pumpkins and place them on top

That’s it!

While they play, they’re practicing number recognition, one-to-one correspondence, counting, fine motor skills, and early math skills—without it feeling like “learning.”

And THAT is one of my favorite ways to teach preschoolers. Make it hands-on. Make it playful. Let those little hands do the learning. 🧡

This simple dot-marker activity turns number recognition into a game! Write numbers inside a fun shape, create a color key, and have your child find and dot each number with the matching color. 🔢🟣🟠

You only get so many falls with them this little. Don’t rush through this one. 🥹🎃

Take them to the pumpkin patch. Let them wander a little too long. Let them touch every pumpkin, explore everything, and proudly pick out the ones they have to bring home.

Then keep the magic going. 🍂

🫧 Fill up a little tub and let them wash + dry their pumpkins
🎨 Pull out the paints and brushes
🎃 Let them turn the pumpkins they picked into their own little masterpieces

It might feel like just another fall activity right now.

But someday, you’d give anything for one more afternoon with those tiny hands scrubbing pumpkins and paint-covered fingers creating something they’re so proud of. 😭

We don’t get this fall with them back.

So make the ordinary things feel special. Let it take too long. Take the pictures. Make the mess. 🍁🤎

One day, we’ll miss this. 🥹🥎⚾️

The rushing out the door. The folding chairs. The snacks packed for everyone. The cheering from the sidelines. The little siblings running around while we try to watch the game. The entire Saturday built around where someone needs to be next.

Right now, it can feel busy.

But someday, our Saturdays will be quiet.

No cleats by the door. No uniforms in the laundry. No “Mom, did you see that?!” No little people piling into the car.

And I have a feeling we’d give anything for just one more Saturday like this.

These are the days. The ordinary, exhausting, beautiful days we’re going to miss. 🤍
