Happy Memorial Monday! Today rounds out the last of our Renaissance Faire commissions. Jack Sparrow () has been attending the Tennessee Renaissance Festival for years. Two years ago he started updating his wardrobe by commissioning more screen accurate pieces from us. He started with the vest and pants and this year he updated with a new shirt. Buying a piece at a time is one of the ways our clients can get a custom costume more sustainably.

2026 Tennessee Renaissance Festival is in the books! Here are two custom commissions we made for this year. These Pirate costumes were made on theme for the Irish Penny Brigade's International Event on pirate weekend of the faire. These costumes were made from a deep green, damask chenille fabric and a matching contrast in black. The coat was trimmed in a light gold soutache braid. We had minimal experience with soutache braid. So it was fun getting to experiment with different designs and shapes. The buttons are a vintage military that feature the Irish harp. Very on theme for the event.

The stays and stomacher were made to be reversible with the black contrast fabric so that the look could be changed up. The straps attached to the front with matching buttons on an elastic cord so that they would move with the body. Of course, both outfits were fitted with functional pockets. Overall, this was a set that we absolutely loved the final results. The best part about making costumes locally is getting to see them in action.

Last year the Marshall County Art Guild (MCAG) and the family of Janet George White teamed up to be able to award multiple classrooms a scholarship to complete different art projects throughout the school year. The last installment of the SpongeBob Musical costumes is Squidward's pants and the BFF letters. Squidward's pants were a challenge for sure. First came making the fake legs, which consisted of PVC bones covered by pool noodles as a base. I used doll making techniques to design the leg covers, then stuffed the legs with polyfil to finish them out. The tops for the legs have a large tab with heavy duty Velcro attached. The fake legs could then be placed into the back of the pants using a zipper opening on the inside of the waistband. The other half of the Velcro was larger so that there could be some height adjustment for the actor to place the legs. Making pants with 4 legs was mind bending to say the least. They took about four mock ups to get it right.

The last costumes are a set of BFF letters made very similarly to the Feet costumes we made a few years ago. They are made from a headliner foam covered by a fun party polka dot charmeuse. There is Velcro at the sides to keep the costumes in place .
