Norwalk Marathon Recap

After arriving on Tuesday we were able to get 2 qualifying passes in on Wednesday before the rain came. Thursday was a wash out as we watched it rain all day. Friday I was able to make it by round 1. Racing was called Friday night after completing a full session of Round 1 for all classes. Saturday morning I decided to be a NDMF and just look foolish to even stage up the car (should have slept in). Shrug that off and come back around for Round 1 Sunday and the car decided to not have but 1/2lbs of fuel pressure at the 1000’ causing a lot of breaking up leading to the driver having to call it quits and shut the engine off. We brought the car home, pops and I think we have made a discovery as to why randomly the car decided to have no fuel pressure. We will return Wednesday evening for the national event and give it another try, Norwalk is one of the best places to race in the country as it truly is first class, hats off to the whole staff of D3 and the Summit Motorsports Park crew for drying and dragging the track all weekend to get the race completed. Congrats to Steven Dziorny Racing on the Runner up in the first race, always glad to see your friends do well, you’re a killer man. Rodney Kaekel got to the 4th round of the second race, good job brother to bring home some money, keep it rolling. It was fun to hangout with everyone, even if I stayed up a little too late some nights it was worth the memories. See everyone Wednesday night for the natty!

I guess we are going to give the first IHRA National/Divisional event a shot at National Trails. Applied for the license today and it was a pretty simple process. Also pre entered Stock Eliminator. Excited to see how this goes.

Running stock parts on your racecar from 1974 like god intended is where it’s at. The green duster should be much happier now. To a test and tune we go!

So this Saturday we made our way to National Trail Raceway for the first NSS Bash race of the year. We were going to try our hand at the index racing. To say we donated our money would be an understatement 😂. The car wouldn’t leave the starting line without dying and even after a whole crew of people were trying to help and diagnose the car I felt I couldn’t race it the way it was sitting. We sat out first round and cheered on everyone else. I definitely will be back to the next NSS bash race with a raceable car. We have a few changes we will be making in the mean time. Thank you to everyone who came over to help me with my “issue”, the Bemiller’s,the Goodins, Casey, and the Powell racing crew. These NSS guys are fun to hangout with, and they have some beautiful cars. Until next time with my be**er! Congrats again to Casey Fauss-Johnson on the R/U in pro and the many rounds in NSS you and that car work well buddy.

The national event Wally was once again given away by the driver being undisciplined in Chicago 4th round. I completely missed the tree and knew it when I let go. All in all it was a good weekend and was fun getting to hangout again with Steven Dziorny Racing and Rodney Kaekel and crew this weekend. We will seal the deal at one of these eventually and get the big Wally. The car preformed great and it was a very interesting weather weekend as we were dialed 2 tenths faster than we qualified on Saturday morning, that was pretty tough to write on the window and feel confident we would get there. I look forward to the next race as we will head to National Trial raceway for a Buckeye Stock/Super Stock combo race. Thank you again to all the NHRA staff for running a very smooth race, and keeping the track on point. Oh and check out the dust storm photo from Friday night at the end

After 2 days here at Rt 66 raceway we are still in for round 3 tomorrow morning. After 2 solid rounds this morning we will be back on track tomorrow for 2 more rounds. The wind has proven to be very tricky as it has been very gusty making dialing a fun chore. Just going to try to keep things rolling.

We are here for day 2 of the first Lucas Oil divisional at Indy. It is a cold cold start to the morning as we are waiting for the track to warm up before we can start qualifying.

It was a fun day at the drags Saturday with the Fuass-Johnson crew testing the new car. The main goal of the day was for the car to make 2-3 successful passes without anything falling off. We managed to keep all the parts on the car and it was actually a little quicker than I originally thought it would be. The car still is not leaving right and with a few carb and chassis adjustments I believe it should be able to go mid 12’s. We blew my goal of one day going 12’s on spray out of the water,so I guess we will be looking at getting into the 11’s! The little mouse motor has more steam in it than I ever imagined for still using the stock rods and pistons and a baby camshaft. From sitting in a field a year ago, to making a 100mph 1/4 mile rip, it’s pretty cool to see everything come together.

Winter update #2 - The Gold Duster

During the fall we stripped the car down, gutting all the interior, taking the windows out, and removing anything that wasn’t going to be needed like the stock wiring harness (extra weight). This winter we took it to Ramon Powell and man does he do great work! He straightened the frame and got the rear 1/4 panels all back to straight. The front core support looks factory and so do the inner fenders. It’s pretty great seeing the car come back from what it was in August of 2023. The final pics will give you a sneak peek on the new color. The car will be off to get a roll cage put in then over to get painted. Thank you again to everyone who’s helped me on this car I can’t wait to see if come back out again. If you need any body work done or painting reach out to Spooner he will take excellent care of your ride.

Winter Update #1: The parts car

After what feels like 8 months of a long cold winter it’s finally starting to feel like we will be back outside again soon. In May of last year me and the crew chief went down in southern Ohio to purchase a “parts car” for my wrecked project (needed a few things like the rear bumper and some other front end pieces). After letting it sit in Leonard’s back yard for a few months I went over one day and asked him if he thought the little 6 cylinder would run, and in about 30 mins he had rigged up an ignition system using a stock Mopar ignition box. Boy did the engine fire right up, ran like you drove it into the back yard, I guess the hook was “set”. After buying a few parts like a an 8 3/4 rear end housing we started taking parts out of the garage and putting them on the car instead of the other way around like I originally planned….who would have guessed 🤷‍♂️. As fall came to an end the car was “road worthy” I didn’t know what to think of the little 6 cylinder but I did have my eye on V/SA for fun. After getting it home I took it out on the road and mashed the skinny pedal, and well the tach looked like the minute hand on a clock (even with a 4.56 gear in the 8 3/4) and I looked out the window and the trees weren’t going by very fast, but the engine was making a whole lot of noise…i was not impressed at all. So I took the car over to my good buddy Casey Fauss-Johnson shop for the winter. After showing up with the car on the first day and after a few garage beers the 6 cylinder was out and we were sizing up what we needed for a V8. We got what we needed and after a few weeks we had a 273 in the car that i built for Casey a couple years ago that was sitting in the corner needing tested. The engine is pretty stock with a small cam, an oil pan and an intake. We topped it off with a Nitrous Express mainline nitrous plate which I will be hooking up here shortly for some added persuasion. I can’t thank Casey and family enough for allowing me a nice place to complete my project over the winter, this car honestly had a better place to stay than my stocker which sat in the trailer all winter🤣. I don’t know what I’m going to do with the car need some suggestions🤷‍♂️ but it should make a fun bracket be**er/chassis dyno for all my ideas and engine combos. Hopefully we will get it aligned this week then off to test this thing down in southern Ohio before April comes. I’m hoping this thing goes 12.xx something she’s definitely lighter than I ever expected. If it doesn’t I’m sure we can allow the Nitrous Express kit to do its thing and get us where we need to go. Thank you to everyone who helped me on the project as always Leonard you were a big help. If you want to know how Casey felt about me once the winter was over check the last picture out. We will be back again with more updates!
