📢 I'm nervous to post this, but I feel the need to.
I've watched photographers post their "I will no longer share children's photos" statement this week because of the AI CSAM ruling.
And I GET IT.
AND... I'm furious at the fact that we're even here.
Because, let's be real about who's carrying the burden from this decision. It's women!!! It's the moms who built small photography businesses around capturing other families, who are now expected to rearrange our entire livelihoods because some vile, disgusting people decide to misuse technology.
It's the women hustling to grow a business who get to absorb the fallout of HORRIBLE DISGUSTING predators' choices.
And, unfortunately, our kids are already photographed at places where explicit consent isn't give, at Walmart, at the ballfield, etc... and the tech giants are already holding "access to all photos", and somehow the small business photographer is the one who is affected.
It makes me sooo upset. At the horrible acts that are being done to prey on our innocent children ...
AND at the fact that moms and women photographer's are having to readjust our business and honestly probably lose business because advertising has to be adjusted according. (Because, it's reallllly hard for someone to want to book you if they can't see the full scope of your work).
SO. Here's what I'm doing (and, honestly, it's not new, it's kind of what I've always done).
IF long as a parent gives me permission, I may still post their family photos.
IF a parent doesn't want me to, I WON'T! I've rewritten contracts for the ones who don't want their photos shared, for that extra level of assurance.
HERE'S WHAT'S NEW --> IF I've posted your family photo in the past, please send me the link to it and I'll take it down.
NO QUESTIONS ASK.
Because, I GET IT. I FULLY UNDERSTAND.
And, please HEAR THIS! I am ANGRY! Angry at the people who are committing these crimes, and the lawmakers too slow to close the gap.
Let's hold them accountable with our voices and our votes.
Again, if you don't want your kid online, tell me, no questions asked, I'll always respect it.
