We’re excited to officially announce the return of the Island Lake Cook-Off!

📅 July 17, 2027

The last cook-off was held back in 2011, and after all these years, we think it’s time to bring this community tradition back—with a few exciting new additions.

What you can look forward to:
🔥 The Island Lake Cook-Off
🎯 A Bags Tournament
🎶 Live Music
🍔 Great Food
🍻 Great Company
✨ And a few surprises we’ll be sharing along the way.

Why announce it a whole year in advance? Because we want everyone to have plenty of time to start planning.

Dust off those family recipes. Gather your friends and family. Dream up your cook-off team name. Circle the date on your calendar. Whether you’re planning to compete or simply spend the day cheering everyone on, we hope you’ll make plans to join us.

This is just the first announcement! Over the next year we’ll be sharing registration information, entertainment, sponsors, event details, and all the fun in between.

🇺🇸 4th of July Hosting Hacks (Because Nobody Cares If Your Napkins Match) 🇺🇸

A friendly reminder before you spiral into a Pinterest rabbit hole at 11 PM:

Your guests are not coming over to inspect your tablescape.

They’re coming for food, drinks, fireworks, and maybe a little neighborhood socializing.

A few hosting hacks to keep things simple:

✨ Decorations don’t need to be elaborate. Grab some red, white, and blue décor in bulk, toss up a banner, scatter a few flags around, and suddenly you’re Martha Stewart’s laid-back cousin.

🍓 A themed dessert is always a crowd-pleaser. Fruit pizza, berry trifle, patriotic cupcakes… people love a dessert that matches the holiday.

🌭 Keep the menu simple. Burgers, hot dogs, brats, a few sides, and call it a day. No one has ever left a 4th of July party saying, “You know what this needed? Three more entrée options.”

🥤 Put cups next to the drinks. Don’t make people hunt through cabinets all uncomfortable.

💧 Have a water station available. Future everyone’s headache will thank you.

🧊 Fill coolers the night before. One less thing to panic about on party day.

🗑️ Put a garbage can where people can actually find it. Revolutionary concept, I know.

🦟 Leave out bug spray and sunscreen. Nothing kills the vibe faster than becoming the mosquitoes’ favorite snack.

🥨 Put snacks out early. A bowl of chips can buy you at least an extra hour before someone asks, “So when are we eating?”

🧻 Put an extra roll of toilet paper in the bathroom. The real MVP of every gathering.

At the end of the day, your guests won’t remember the centerpieces.

They’ll remember that they felt welcome, had a full plate, a cold drink, and a reason to stay longer than they planned.

And honestly, that’s a successful 4th of July.

Talk Derby to me. 🌹🐎

What started as a few ideas between friends turned into one of the most beautiful, joy-filled evenings. From the florals and betting tables to the tiny desserts, signature drinks, and every little thoughtful touch — this party was such a reminder that gathering people together is truly magic.

So thankful I got to help consult, organize, and bring this Kentucky Derby party to life alongside two amazing friends. The laughter, the outfits, the competition, the chaos before guests arrived… worth every second.

Hosting isn’t just about throwing a party.

this is your sign to not overcomplicate it 😅

You don’t need a 5-course meal and a Pinterest meltdown.

You need:
• A pretty setup (hello florals + citrus moment 🍋)
• Good food (store-bought is allowed 🤝)
• A plan that lets YOU enjoy the day too

Easy + Fun Ideas:
– Mimosa or coffee bar
– Brunch grazing board
– “Favorite memory of mom” toast
– Yard games if weather allows
– Let mom do absolutely nothing (non-negotiable)
