These photos were taken after Jordan’s second 6 month deployment. He was supposed to come home in two weeks or so he told me. A friend of mine had convinced me to photograph her husband’s homecoming (which I begrudgingly agreed to do because I was being a total butthead). As you can see, I was completely shocked to see MY husband coming down the escalator. On my left and right were men and women, veterans, lined up, holding American flags. They were there to support the homecoming troops. Really, what an amazing sight.
But that’s not really what this post is about. Days like today remind me that my husband did come home. After a long 6 months of being apart, we were reunited. And not just that one time, but many times.
The same cannot be said for every soldier who left behind their loved ones, their wives, children, mothers, daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, fathers. Too many did not get to come home. Too many who did come home had to struggle through physical and mental challenges as a result of their service.
So thank you, thank you to all those who risked gave their lives, their health to protect our freedoms and our country. There are not enough words of gratitude to express how I feel, but thank you to those who've defended our country, who've left their families to serve, to those who’ve paid the ultimate price. And to their loved ones too. .
Oh how I love America. Land of the Free, Home of the Brave.
