In just posting to a group on FaceBook for an 'open wall' call for businesses, I referenced the difference between a CSEP and a party planner. I just received the most wonderful response on another colleague's wall who didn't see the post that simply said "You turned me from a party planner to an event planner! Forever grateful for your love, support and friendship"! This is the reason most planners contracts, sans very few exceptions, require full payment no less than 14 days from commencement of the event. For those following my page who are students and new in the profession, take note. Many have asked what the CSEP (Certified Special Events Professional) designation means and how it differs from a 'certificate'. Here's the information directly from The International Special Events Society website: "As the premier organization for Event Professionals, ISES certifies special event professionals through the Certified Special Events Professional (CSEP) designation. Unlike many certificate programs being offered by colleges and private educational opportunities, the CSEP program is practice-based. It is not intended to teach individuals how to effectively become event professionals. Rather, it is designed to measure an individual’s “knowledge-in-use” – the application of knowledge and skills by those with real-life experience in this role. " It pays to hire a professional who has gone the distance to show the depth and breadth of knowledge needed to master planning and managing events.

Your CSEP Emeritus Status Recertification application and payment have been approved. The Emeritus title is reserved for event professionals who have achieved and maintained the CSEP credentials and who have provided continued support and commitment to the evolution of the events profession. With the unanimous support and upon direction of the Certification Committee of the International Special Events Society, I am pleased to grant you Emeritus CSEP certification status effective immediately. As an emeritus designee, you have permanent CSEP status and remain an active participant in an elite group of event professionals who value the advancement of the events industry. Congratulations on your accomplishment!

Your new status exempts you from all future recertification requirements, however your CSEP title, listing, and other certification benefits remain active. You will still be expected to uphold the highest standards of performance and professionalism that the CSEP designation represents.
