Maifest is a German tradition dating back to the 10th century, when villagers would gather to celebrate the arrival of spring by planting flowers, playing music and games, and raising a “maipole” in the local square. The pole would be decorated with sausages, cakes, flowers, and ribbons, and villagers believed that dancing around it would bring good luck and wealth to the village. Pictured is Leavenworth getting its "new" 90ft Maipole.

A great day for the Apple Blossom Grand Parade in Wenatchee. Pictured here is our ALFA float, We had seven people walking with the float entertaining the crowd doing the Chicken Dance. It so much fun watching people doing the dance with us, especially the little children. Our next outing is next Saturday, May 14 in downtown Leavenworth for the traditional Maifest celebration.

Our "new" float made its season debut at the Daffodil Festival in Tacoma and three other parades, Puyallup, Sumner and Orting on April 9. Travelling to four parades in one day is exhausting to say the least. The first parade in Tacoma begins at 10am, but the float crew is up bright and early, like just after dawn, to get the float ready. Thousands of daffodils need to place all around the float then moved to the staging area in downtown Tacoma. Once the first parade to done, the float is driven to Puyallup on local streets and highways. Usually we get there just in time for the start. Then it's off to Sumner, more miles down the road. And finally off to Orting, about 9 miles further. By 6pm we're loading the float into the trailer for home. The float was awarded the "Spirit Award".

Next up, Apple Blossom in Wenatchee. If you've never walked in a parade this is a perfect opportunity. All you need is to wear your lederhosen or dirndl and comfortable shoes. Meet the float before the 10am start at Triangle Park (Cherry and Orono streets).
