I am going to rename the kitten since I cannot for the life of me remember what the kids called her! She’s our official flower farm greeter. She says hello to every single customer and is super friendly and playful. I think she needs a flower name.

2020 was a year of so much growth and change for us. As I started planting our new crop I realized that I’m so eager to know what will come with this new season! One thing I do know will come, lots of flowers 😁👏🏼

Guessss what!? The snow finally melted!!☀️Ive been threatening to take the hair blower to it if it lasted another week... but voila! A few warm days and 2 feet is gone.

So since we’re building greenhouses and have set up the dirt pile of a seeding operation in the middle of our tiny shed kitchen, I figured it’s time to start the farm journal again!

This is what Charlie thinks of operation recreate ancient greenhouse junk. I think it might actually work🤞🏼

2021 FLOWER SUBSCRIPTIONS OPEN!
Yippee!
Though it is a couple months till we actually have flowers blooming around here, this is a great time to hop on board for a couple reasons.
1. You need a Valentines Day gift. A whole summer’s worth of flowers would rank you best gift giver EVER. (Am I right or just biased? 🤔😆)
If you need a gift card we can give you one.

2. We will be raising prices later in the spring so buying now will get you a good deal.

3. The farm has a lot of up front costs loaded onto the front end of the season. Especially this year because I need a little greenhouse for all the baby plants. So buying now will help this farmer out a bit.

Thanks for supporting your local flower farm y’all! We can’t wait to do the summer with you again ☀️ 💐

Day 4 - What we do now.
Since I left y’all with what DIDN’T work for our business, I figured I should probably come back and tell you what we actually do now.
We’ve actually serve several different markets now. I’ve actually been working the last couple days on finalizing our offerings for this year and just as soon as our new website is finished being built I’ll be opening up shop! Should be just in time for Valentine’s Day 😁
So here’s what’s on the docket for 2021:

1. Subscriptions. The newest development with that is that we will be utilizing pick-up locations where you can pick up your bouquet with no additional fee. Delivery to your door will still be available with a fee. Subscriptions are my personal favorites!

2. Farm stand. We will be open for drop-in customers and U-pick on the farm from July to October.

3. Leavenworth Farmer’s Market.

4. Wholesale to several local grocery stores.

5. Wholesale to Florists.

6. And of course, stocking up our favorite hotel in town, .

It’s going to be a busy season! 👏🏼

I promise we’ll finish out the week with Day 4 of 4 of my introduction posts tomorrow. But, tonight as I was writing, I suddenly remembered the strangest request I got on the farm this summer. It set me to giggling all over again🤣

It was September I think. My fields were still loaded with flowers, and I was still filling lots of orders. The season had definitely taken its toll on the plants though. The Zinnias were starting to show signs of mildew setting in and some of the plants had some crunchy, brown leaves.

Bottom line - they weren’t the most beautiful sight if you looked at them up close.

Anyhow, I was out working in the field one day and a lady drove in and said, “Looks like you have lots of Zinnias, can I dig up a bunch for my garden?”
At first I didn’t think she was serious, but she was DEAD serious! 🤯😱🤭
Unfortunately, I had to decline the request. It was in the best interest of both of us for the plants to stay where they were. The truth is, every plant I grow is my baby - so even if you come looking for transplants at the proper time of year, you probably aren’t going to get any. Sorry! 🤷🏼‍♀️😅

Ready for day three?
Today I spent the day with the family brainstorming for the next flower season, and what it’ll look like. We were throwing around really big ideas and trying to stay objective about what’s actually reasonable to accomplish. It kind of reminded me of trying to plan for my first season when StinaBee’s Flowers was just an idea and I had no idea what I was doing...
Did you know that my original business idea was a complete flop?

That’s when I learned some pretty earth shattering business basics like, you’re supposed to charge sales tax on your products!🤯🤯🤯

No joke, I was that clueless!

Do any of you have a first-day-on-the-job embarrassing moments like that? (Drop me a comment. I wanna know what happened!)

Over the next two months I popped up at different boutiques on Wenatchee Avenue a couple times a week. That was the only way I intended to market my flowers.

Most days I sold nothing.

I’m not sure, but I think that the people who did buy from me bought because they felt sorry for me more than because they wanted flowers. Bless them 🙈😁

I wish I could say that once I changed my sales tactics it was smooth sailing from there... Instead, it’s a wonder this plane didn’t crash before it got off the ground!
So today I’m just over here reminding myself that the keys to get us from April 18, 2019 to now hasn’t been good ideas or flawless plans, it’s been a dogged determination to not give up, and adaptability to adjust course as needed.

Random facts about my life day 2.

I was born in the suburbs of Southern California. My sisters, 3 & 4 at the time, had a bunny named Snowflake and a Golden Retriever named Shasta. They wanted to move out to the country where they could have more animals. Every day they prayed the same prayer asking for a house with a little red barn, and NO PIGS! 🐷
We moved to the Wenatchee area when I was three and my parents started looking for a house. They found one in Cashmere, on Flowery Divide Rd (should’ve taken the hint back then 🌸🌻😁). It had a little red barn...

That was home for my entire childhood.

This summer our family was uprooted and transplanted in the next town over, Leavenworth. The reason? Flat land 🤩
Some neighbors in Cashmere had graciously leased their flat land to me during my first season growing flowers, but I needed to find a place to get established permanently for our farm. So here we are!
We moved to the farm the first week of July and spent the next few months building our very own hoboville - complete with three sheds, 1 Walmart tent, a canvas tent, and an RV. The original intention was to build a house and move in by snowfall. The county office had other ideas though 🤓
We waited for our building permit for 8 months before it was issued... So hoboville lives on!

I can’t say it’s been convenient, especially when we didn’t have warm water, a sink, or a shower... and I have to admit that sometimes it does get colder than I wish, but I’ve always wanted to live in a canvas tent, so I’m over here living the dream! Be careful what you dream of 😋
Actually, it’s very fun!
