An open band is a collection of acoustic musicians who all wish to play for our dance! A core group of experienced musicians, with Scott McLewin in the lead, will choose the tunes, set the tempo, and lead the rest in an orchestrated experience for all! We’re two weeks from FidPick weekend and our kickoff pre-party! We've got a stacked lineup of local bluegrass ladies on tap for Saturday night including Unfit Wives, MAW, and just announced - The Twangles!

South Park in Lawrence, KS was home to FidPick before it was the Kansas State Fiddling & Picking Championships — in 1976, at the inaugural Douglas County Fiddling & Picking Contest.

50 years and many broken strings later, we still call the City Of Lawrence home. And we’re grateful for the enduring financial support of the City of Lawrence, KS and eXplore Lawrence

After Doug DuBois’s untimely passing in 2021, his family wanted to ensure his legacy in the local fiddling community lived on. Doug played an active role in FidPick as both volunteer and competitor for over two decades, and was active in the Lawrence Barn Dance Association as well.

FidPick is honored to carry on his name as a recipient of the Doug DuBois Harmony Fund. His name graces our concert stage, and the funds help us to elevate FidPick’s main event with premier acts like this year’s featured performer, Dom Flemons.

So come on out to the 45th Annual Kansas State Fiddling & Picking Champions this Aug 23 and show off your skills, circle up and jam, or just enjoy the scene that Doug helped build.
