Lawrence Opera Theatre has one more performance today, so don't miss out!

2:30 PM at Theatre Lawrence, they will start the show with "Pagliacci." Grab yourself a drink at intermission (it's still the weekend, right?) and then settle in for the hysterical "Gianni Schicchi"!

Last night's double bill of Pagliacci / Gianni Schicchi was everything. If you missed it, there is another opportunity to catch it this Sunday at 2:30 PM, live or livestream.

While you're at it, come to Theatre Lawrence TONIGHT at 7:30 for another double bill of musical theatre cabaret and a Seinfeld-ian "Doctor Miracle," which is one of the funnier things I've seen all year!

Your support for Lawrence Opera Theatre keeps this incredible non-profit organization putting on amazing shows every summer, and providing performance opportunities for talented singers all over the world.

It's a glorious week of photographing the Lawrence Opera Theatre performances, and last night's show was incredible.

Opera Scenes took the first half of the night, showcasing the talents and hard work of the group. It's always nice to see familiar faces as well, like this absolute siren who was up in the stratosphere with the Queen of the Night aria (also, I want that headpiece).

Erin and Cormac informed me there was, until recently, a really interesting treehouse in that gorgeous specimen. It had since been torn down, but I made sure to feature it in this sweet walking photo.

Hands tell a story, through so many different phases of our lives. I watched these two place rings on each other’s fingers, and now these hands cradle new life.

It was a hazy evening when we met up to do a maternity session in Kansas City, but I think it lent itself beautifully.

Not to mention, a cloudy breezy day in July is a welcome break when you’re eight months pregnant.

What makes photography so meaningful for me, is getting the privilege of documenting the different chapters of people throughout their lives.

I first photographed Erin and Cormac back in 2022. My first solo-shot wedding. They are such lovely individuals, and it was a life- and career-affirming experience for me. So you can imagine how much my heart swelled when Erin emailed me recently, asking if I was available to do a maternity session with them. 🥹

It doesn’t get more local than this.

honey is next level. Golden amber, perfect sweetness. It’s offered in four different sizes (two of which are honey bears!), and is an amazing way to add sweetness or replace sugar in your favorite recipes.

My kids are enjoying some of this honey on toast with a sprinkle of cinnamon, and it’s gratifying for me as a mother to be able to offer them something sweet without the spike and subsequent crash that regular sugar seems to give them.

Janelle, a farmer and beekeeper, makes a variety of soaps with pure ingredients and incredible scents, which is a winning combination.

These are her Honeyed Milk soaps, and I am so in love with the patterns. Charming little bees, honeycomb, and flowers adorn them, giving these soaps a lovely cottage-y feel.

What I find most remarkable about these, is how the soaps themselves leave your skin feeling moisturized without that oily sensation that a lot of conventional soaps leave behind. Not to mention, I’m one of those people with terribly sensitive skin AND a sensitive nose, so I tend toward soaps that don’t smell like anything and thus won’t give me a headache.

Not the case here. The scents she uses are pleasant, and even just having one of these bars of soap out in a room acts as a room freshener. I don’t think my house has ever smelled so good (and my 3-year-old son is obsessed with the patterns and smells to the point he keeps stealing bars of soap 😂).

Stop by Janelle’s booth every Saturday this season at the and pick up some of these amazing products!

Janelle, a local farmer and beekeeper, reached out to me needing some photos to showcase her incredible products, and as I love supporting local, I couldn’t wait to get started.

One of the things she makes is beeswax candles and this is her Honeyed Sage - it features sage along with other incredible woodsy scents like eucalyptus and pine needles. It smells rustic and warm and cozy, like the kind of candle you want to light after a chilly fall day outside, wrapping yourself in a blanket and enjoying a hot beverage.

I absolutely love the wood wick - it makes for an even more beautiful flame, and there wasn’t that lingering smoky smell after blowing it out.

Janelle is a vendor at the every Saturday through the season (ends in November!) so make sure to stop by her booth and stock up on these candles (and soap!).
