Joe Friday! Evel Knievel's pickup combined his showman flair with the practical reality of a traveling daredevil who needed to move motorcyles around. It is both a cutom-car artifact and a personal relic of how he actually lived and worked. The appearance of these one-off wonders became part of the show's spectacle in the 1970s.

On this day — October 6, 1973. 🇺🇸

Evel Knievel took on Wisconsin International Raceway in Kaukauna, Wisconsin, for the first of two days of jumps. October 6 ended in success, with Evel clearing the jump in front of the Wisconsin crowd.

The following day was a different story. While attempting to clear 10 cars and 3 vans, the right handlebar grip came off during the jump, sending Evel crashing. Despite suffering a fractured hand, fractured back, and kidney damage, Evel got back to his feet, grabbed the microphone and told the crowd:

“I’m too tough to die.”

More than five decades later, the motorcycle from that unforgettable weekend is on display at the Evel Knievel Experience in Las Vegas.
