A soldier dies twice. Once when he takes his last breath. And once again, when his name is spoken for the last time.
This is why we run. This is why we remember.
At the Queenslake Mogadishu Mile, the race is more than a physical challenge; it is a moving tribute, a promise to keep their memory alive. Participants do not simply run past these markers; they stop. At each of the 19 memorials, they state the name of the fallen soldier, ensuring that each hero is seen, honored, and spoken aloud.
It takes 1 minute and 43 seconds to walk past all nineteen at a decent pace. But for us, that walk is an eternity of reflection and gratitude. We slow down to remember the lives behind the names, so they will never know that second, final death.
This profound act of remembrance is made possible by the lasting tributes created by Harbor Steel & Supply Corporation, who generously donated the plaques for each and every one of these hallowed memorials. Thank you for helping us build a permanent place for honor.
