What makes a business community feel like a community, not just a calendar full of events?

For me, it comes down to the people who show up, support one another and make room for others to grow.

I’m grateful for moments like this with members of the A Team and the Vegas Chamber community.

They are a reminder that small businesses do not grow in isolation. They grow through meaningful connections, shared knowledge and leaders who are willing to help.

Recognition matters, too. It gives us a chance to pause, celebrate progress and thank the people helping Southern Nevada move forward.

I’m looking forward to the Vegas Chamber’s 2026 Business of the Year Awards, presented by Nevada State Bank, on October 15 at Golden Nugget Las Vegas.

In Las Vegas, lasting business relationships are built by the people who keep showing up.

If you want to become an anchor in the Las Vegas business community this fall:

⭐ Choose consistency over visibility. Attend the same events regularly so people have a chance to know and trust you.

⭐ Host something recurring. Offer to lead a quarterly chamber or association meeting, mixer or roundtable.

⭐ Support more than business. Show up for local initiatives, including efforts that help feed children and strengthen families.

⭐ Follow up with purpose. Do more than exchange contact information. Send a helpful introduction, share a resource or make time for a real conversation.

Most business owners move through three very different stages.

And knowing which stage you’re in can explain a lot about how you’re feeling about your business.

🌱 THE EARLY PHASE — “Teach Me.”

This is when the passion is high.

Everything is new. You’re learning, meeting people, trying ideas and soaking up as much information as you can.

But there’s also a danger here: the drop-out threat.

When the excitement doesn’t turn into results quickly enough, it’s easy to wonder, “Is this really going to work?”

🌿 THE MIDDLE PHASE — “Encourage Me.”

Now you know more — and you’re committed.

But this is often where building a business starts feeling like work.

You’re doing the networking.
You’re following up.
You’re serving clients.
You’re handling the things nobody warned you about.

The danger here is burnout.

Sometimes you don’t need another class or another great idea. You need encouragement, good people around you and the discipline to keep going.

🌳 THE MATURE PHASE — “Use Me.”

This one is different.

You’ve accumulated knowledge, experience, relationships and probably a few hard-earned lessons.

Your question begins to change from:

“What can I get from this?”

to:

“How can I use what I’ve learned to help someone else?”

You make the introduction.
You share the lesson.
You mentor the newer business owner.
You open a door because you can.

But there’s a danger at this stage too: checking out.

Experience can make us comfortable. We can stop learning, stop reaching out and stop challenging ourselves.

After more than 20 years of helping professionals build meaningful business relationships, I’ve realized something:

Business maturity isn’t about staying excited forever.

It’s about growing from:

LEARNING → COMMITMENT → CONTRIBUTION

And here’s the interesting part…

You don’t necessarily graduate from one stage and never go back.

I can be mature in one area of my business and brand-new in another. I can be the person saying “Use me” in one room and “Teach me” in the next.

I actually think that’s a healthy place to be.

A beautiful event setup doesn’t have to mean buying more décor.

The right placement can make a room feel warmer, more intentional and ready for guests, whether you’re planning a Las Vegas birthday, wedding, graduation or business mixer.

Here are 3 simple décor hacks I come back to:

➡️ Use lighting to create zones:
Place warm lamps, uplighting or string lights near the food, gift or conversation areas. Good lighting helps guests understand where to go and makes the room feel more inviting.

➡️ Keep the backdrop where people naturally gather:
Position it near the entrance, dessert table or main activity instead of hiding it in a corner. That way, it becomes part of the event instead of a decoration guests forget to use.

➡️ Style tables in layers:
Start with one strong foundation, such as a runner or tablecloth. Add varying heights with flowers, candles, signage or serving pieces. A few intentional details usually look better than a crowded table.

The best décor supports the experience. It helps people connect, find their way around the room and feel comfortable enough to stay awhile.

How to host a 50-person seminar in Las Vegas without letting the budget get away from you.

Your first workshop does not need hotel ballroom costs, complicated logistics or a long list of vendors.

It needs a clear plan and a space that fits the event.

Here’s the checklist I recommend:
➡️ Start with the room setup. For 50 attendees, classroom seating gives people a place to take notes while keeping the room comfortable. Confirm the layout, table count and walking space before booking anything.

➡️ Separate needs from nice-to-haves. Prioritize seating, a lectern, reliable microphones, presentation equipment, restrooms and parking. Add refreshments and décor only after the essentials are covered.

➡️ Ask about hidden costs. Before signing, clarify setup fees, cleanup charges, staffing, overtime, AV, food and beverage rules, parking and cancellation terms. A low rental rate can become expensive when the extras are added.

➡️ Make the event easy to attend. Choose a convenient Las Vegas location, share clear directions, open registration early and send attendees the schedule, parking information and what they should bring.

A few simple decisions can protect the budget without making the seminar feel stripped down.

A professional event is not defined by how much you spend. It is defined by how well the experience works for the people in the room.
