We landed in Portland for a Pre-excursion in Ribbon Ridge before the start of . There was only enough time to do a bag drop and we were shuttled to Domaine Divio.

We met up with the owner & winemaker Bruno Corneaux. (what a fun guy!!). Bruno is a fourth generation grape grower from Burgundy. (His wines definitely reflect that.) When making wine, Bruno prefers to let the vines and grapes do their thing. He uses natural growth, dry farming and organic practices.

The wine poured for us was a Burgundian blend named Passetoutgrain — made of 2/3 Pinot & 1/3 Gamay. A beautiful color and an excellent QPR.

Domaine Divio is great for chilling in the adirondack chairs with a glass of wine and staring off into the vineyards.

Last Wednesday I attended my first wine dinner in like a year. I'm not going to lie, I was incredibly nervous. Especially when I found out that dinner was inside the restaurant and not outside on the patio. I had gotten accustomed to outdoor dining around the city. It was a little tight inside but diners were placed far enough that my anxieties dissipated pretty quickly. The staff was incredibly attentive and made me feel safe.

Unfortunately, I did not do any notetaking. I suppose I’m just a bit rusty and wanted to enjoy the meal, the wine and my friend. I do remember the pairings were fun and interesting (you can pair fish with red wine depending on the wine and the seasonings/sauces you use). Also, it is very rare for me to attend a wine dinner and I don’t have to ask for food modifications. That was exciting for me (yeah, I’m that person. Lol)!

*The wine dinner was held at SER in Arlington with Aurelio Cabestrero of Grapes of Spain and Arrowine and Cheese (wine can be purchased at Arrowine)*

Today is the second annual "Open that Bottle of Virginia Wine Day!” You know I believe in supporting local and it’s about drinking wine. Soooo...count me in!

I haven’t decided which bottle I’m opening but I can’t go wrong with either!

The wine:
Hark Vineyards, Cabernet Franc, 2018
Lightwell Survey, Los Idiots, Syrah & Riesling, 2017

Reunited and it taste so good...

I finally made it to Queen Mother’s new location in Arlington. I had to drive all the way home smelling the fries. 😌 For folks that want to eat sooner than later - there was a cute outdoor area behind the building.

Queen Mother’s Classic Fried Chicken sandwich cooked in duck fat? ✅
Waffle fries cooked in duck fat? ✅✅
Bubbles? ✅✅ and ✅ (more about the bubbles later)

I just love everything about this. Cheers!

If you are looking for bubbles with a little sweetness, try this Dr Loosen Sparkling Riesling (Sekt). I would considered this off-dry at 18.8g of residual sugar (RS). It’s 100% Riesling! Bright, crisp with good acidity.

This bottle would be perfect for brunch! I enjoyed a glass with scrambled eggs and salmon. Added a little seasoning with heat to the salmon and a dash of hot sauce to the eggs. *Chef’s kiss*

Saturday was the "birth day" of Riesling, which was first documented in 1435 near the Rheingau region of Germany. Germany is the “home of the world's largest vineyard area dedicated to Riesling and grows more than 45% of the world's Riesling grapes.”

Another pairing option: Cheesetique has it paired with triple-crème Saint André, Basque sheep beauty Etorki, mild Brie-style Cambozola Blue, grapes and crackers.

Driving by H Street (in DC), I always saw a line at this food truck but could never find parking close enough to stop. When I saw post for , I decided now is the time. Dang. I haven’t stood in line for anything for years. In the cold and 45 minutes later, I got my order and got back into the warmth of my car. All the way home I hoped it was worth it. Y’all it totally was! Phew!! 😅

I ordered the Jammin Salmon with plantains, JaMacNCheese (so good!!) and the Chicken Jerk Tacos. Yeah I was hungry so don’t judge me, okay. I stood at the kitchen counter and devoured a little of each dish. Delicious! Would I stand in line again for 45 minutes, probably not. But if I happen to drive by on a day that the line is short, you better believe I’m parking my car.

Support so they survive!

Seafood and Chenin!

I was so excited when I picked my order up. I knew the exact wine I wanted to try with it. Crab legs and shrimp with the head on swimming in a spicy Special House Blend. Yes, please! The wine played so nicely with the spiciness of the sauce. Y’all this was so good!

Wait, do you like shrimp with the head on or off? This is a serious question. Lol. I won’t judge you. Okay I might side eye you...
