Today, we honor the legacy of Joseph W. Hatchett, known as Papa to our family, the visionary who planted the seeds of what would become J. H. Vineyards. His passion for farming, love for the land, and commitment to family live on in every vine we tend but his impact was felt far beyond the vineyard. Joseph made history as the first African American appointed to the Florida Supreme Court in 1975 and later served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for both the Fifth and Eleventh Circuits. He dedicated his life to justice, equality, and civil rights, shaping the United States legal landscape in profound ways. Though he passed in 2021, his legacy of hard work, integrity, and family is what drives us forward. Today, we celebrate his life, his achievements, and the dream he built.
