Back home from the final competition of 2023 at the Huge thanks to Roy Swift and the entire staff there for putting on another amazing event!

We started the week with a free meal for over 600 veterans on Thursday, then Friday another meal for 200 casino VIPs. Shoutout to for taking on organizing the event.

Competition day came and we had 25 teams braving 40mph wind gusts and heavy rain. Nobody lost a tent and all 100 turn ins were made without a hitch to make the event a qualifier. Huge thanks to the teams that jumped in last minute to make it happen.

We had a great cook all things considered. Those drums and shrugged off the wind and didn’t skip a beat.

Went to The Jack, had a blast and got to hear our name called! 10th place in my nemesis chicken.
Thanks to Mark from for a awesome cooker, for keeping the fire going, and a brand new recipe featuring rubs that included running out at 7am Friday to buy a 2nd batch of chicken thighs.

Day 5: The road to Started the day at an unassuming white building picking up some amazing looking meats from
Then spent the rest of the day driving through a bunch of spots that remind me of home, small towns and corn fields. Finally crossed the border into Tennessee! Spending the night in Tullahoma before heading into the Hollow of Lynchburg tomorrow morning.

Then got an in person preview of the new addition to the drum lineup and and got a tour of the shop from Mark and his son. Incredibly nice people, and I love that he never stops trying to make little improvements to the product.
Finished the day up with an identical order as yesterday, this time from and it was fantastic. Their jalapeño cheddar sausage was the best bite of the trip!
