The music world is mourning the loss of one of their own. Brian Wilson, co-founder of the legendary band, The Beach Boys, has died, this according to his social media sites.
The post read, âWe are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away. We are at a loss for words right now. Please respect our privacy at this time as our family is grieving.
We realize that we are sharing our grief with the world. Love & Mercyâ
Along with brothers Carl, Dennis, his cousin - Mike and neighbor, Al, - Brian rode in on a wave and rocked the nation from coast to coast - they were all American and all talent. The California based band made a big splash in the 60s with their west coast style, heavenly harmonies, and clean cut image. They found a permanent home on the charts with hits like: "Good Vibrations," "Surfin' USA," and slow dance anthems such as "Don't Worry Baby." Lineup changes took place, the leadership of the band shifted, & the Boys' sound evolved as the door shut on the 60s. Brian would have an on again, off again relationship with the band as he navigated personal hardships.
In 1988, the original lineup was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A decade later, they were honored by being inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame. In 2004, the Library of Congress selected Pet Sounds for preservation in the National Recording Registry, recognizing it as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant." Additionally, the group's recordings of "In My Room," "Good Vibrations," "California Girls," and the entire Pet Sounds album have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
Wilsonâs daughters, Carnie and Wendy, would follow in their fatherâs footsteps forming the music group, Wilson Phillips, with Chyna Phillipsâ whose parents, John & Michelle, were members of another 60âs sensation, The Mamas & The Papas.
Wilson was 82, at the time of his passing. His memory will live on through his music.
