Our prayers are with her family for their loss love ones. Melva was a member for ICDA (Lafayette) and Lafayette Athletic Association of the Deaf for a long time. She graduated Louisiana School for the Deaf in1955. She will missed by us.

Melva Broussard Obituary
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 at a 2:00 PM Catholic Service in La Chapelle de Martin & Castille in Lafayette for Melva Broussard, age 90, who passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2026 at Calcutta House by Hospice of Acadiana in Lafayette.
Interment will be held in Calvary Cemetery.
Reverend Daniel Picard will officiate at the services.
Survivors include her daughter, Arlene Bihm; her son, David Broussard; one brother; Jack Churchwell (Mary); eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and her son-in-law, Rodney Fritz.
She was preceded in death by her husband John Elward Broussard; her parents, Ruby Dunham and Clyde Churchwell; her brother, G.W. Churchwell; her daughter, Martha Fritz; her son-in-law, Kerry Bihm, and her daughter-in-law, Jamie Broussard.
Melva Broussard was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend whose kindness, laughter, and unwavering love for her family will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Melva found great joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved playing bingo, bowling, and spending time socializing with the deaf community, where she formed many treasured friendships throughout the years. She also enjoyed trips to the casino, especially when surrounded by her family and friends. More than anything, Melva cherished the time she spent with those she loved, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, love, and togetherness.
Her warm smile, caring heart, and joyful spirit touched the lives of everyone she met. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and always looked forward to gatherings with family and friends. The love she shared and the memories she created will remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
Though she will be deeply missed, Melva's legacy of love, friendship, and devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Pallbearers will be Rodney James Fritz, Shaun Fritz, Chad Fritz, Brandon Bihm, John Broussard, and Benjamin Broussard.
A Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at 6:30 P.M. in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location.
The family requests that visitation be observed on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday, July 29, 2026 from 9:00 AM until time of services.
