Our Story... A dream in the making
In 2005, an area grocery store relocated their operations leaving behind an anchor space that would remain empty for over 12 years. During that time, a property left in neglect and disrepair became the focus of River City Church members who desired it to become a hub of community programs that would serve its surrounding residents.
Ten years later, in 2015, local developers with connections to River City Church purchased the entire plaza with the goal of making investments to make the property once again, an essential part of Southside Lafayette community connections and commerce. Once the property was under the management of River City Church, two major phases of renovation began. The first, which opened in August 2017, was the STEAM Academy; an innovative preschool learning center. And then came the River City Community Center, a 45,000 square-foot multi-purpose facility, which was completed in May 2019.
