Today, the last day of our choral pilgrimage, the St James-by-the-Sea choir was honored to sing evensong at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. In addition to singing evensong, many choir members enjoyed seeing the changing of the guard at Windsor Castle and going on walks in Eton and the Windsor Long Walk.

Sunday was our final day at , where we celebrated Cathedral Eucharist during the morning service and sung our last Choral Evensong there in the afternoon. Our time here has been transformative – we’ve formed new friendships among our choir and with Wells’ welcoming clergy and laity – and we’ve grown in spirit.

Our next stop is Tuesday Evensong in St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Day 6 was Saturday and we enjoyed a delayed choir call that morning, which gave our karaoke singers from the previous night an extra hour to recover. The rest of the afternoon was free time and some of us toured the Bishop’s Palace and Gardens while others visited the town market.

Day 5 brought us to Glastonbury: a tour of the Abbey where King Arthur and Queen Guinevere were rumored to be buried, a hike up to the Tor with panoramic views of the countryside, shopping around the trinket stores on High Street, and then back to Wells for our fourth Evensong.

Day 4, we went to Berkeley Castle (pronounced “Bark-ly” by the posh) and Bristol. Naturally, choir members were particularly excited by the Antiphonary in Berkeley Castle and many a brave member approached the book to try their hand at reading the notes. We then had a tour of Bristol and got to walk across the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge. Finally we ended the day with a yummy dinner at Za Za Bazaar (pronounced “za za bazaa” by the posh) in Bristol.

Day 3 of our tour was action-packed: shopping around the Wednesday Market (where Lisa did a beautiful watercolor), a “High Parts” tour of the Cathedral, celebrating Jim’s birthday with songs and ice cream, another great Evensong, and then watching the World Cup semifinals. Even though England lost, we had fun celebrating their goal and then commiserating with others in the pub.
