About Us

In 1983, Bittersweet Flower Market was opened by Don Ritter and Jeff Kleven in a restored 165-year-old dairy barn. Offering high-quality flowers, plants and gifts, the flower market has been a mainstay in La Crosse for 35 years.

In 1999, Jen Jones, the current owner, began working at Bittersweet while attending the University of Wisconsin - La Crosse. She is a third generation florist and grew up working in her grandparents flower shop! In 2002, Jen graduated from UWL and moved away to continue her career and start a family. In 2015 Jen moved back to La Crosse with her husband and two children, and in 2016 purchased Bittersweet from Don and Jeff.

Since becoming the owner of Bittersweet, Jen has enjoyed continuing the tradition of the shop as well as expanding it’s wedding business. In addition to offering exquisite florals, the Greenhouse at Bittersweet has taken place as La Crosse’s newest wedding venue! During June through October when it’s not filled with plants, the Greenhouse has dual-functionality: greenhouse by day, premier event venue by night!

Bittersweet is proud to offer year-round floral deliveries for all of life’s occasions, seasonal gifts, indoor green and blooming plants, garden art and supplies, and unique home decor. In the Spring our greenhouse is full of hanging baskets and unique perennials, and in the early winter we are brimming with poinsettias and other seasonal plants.
