🎉 Happy Birthday 🎂 Food4VOLS! 5️⃣

Yesterday, we celebrated 5 years of No Hunger. No Waste. Since 2021, food4VOLS partners with Vol Dining to collect surplus, usable food from campus dining outlets to transport to UT Culinary Institute where staff and student VOLUNTEERS transform it into nutritious, ready-to-heat meals.

food4Vols is proudly operated under RHTM at UTK to help end hunger and reduce food waste on our campus. Our department is proud to have this program that connects us to the Volunteer spirit here at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville!

A huge thank you to the faculty and staff behind this operation: Chef Tyler White, Andrew White, and Krista Blevins!

We are saddened to hear about the passing of Dolly Parton 🦋, a True Icon with a heart of a True Volunteer 🧡

Dolly Parton reminds us that being a true volunteer isn’t just about giving your time, it’s about seeing a need, dreaming bigger and doing something about it.

From East Tennessee to the world, Dolly has made an incredible impact and left an inspiring legacy. We remember her today in many great ways because she was an incredible person. One important way is her positive contribution through retail, hospitality, and tourism when she opened Dollywood in 1986. Over the years she shared her stories with us and the world. She made everyone feel welcomed to our beautiful state of Tennessee, consistently gave back and created opportunities for others.

Her legacy reaches every generation and shows us what can happen when you dream more, do more and give more.

A true volunteer. A true RHTM entrepreneur. A wonderful person. A true Tennessee icon. 🧡

✨Dolly, We will always love you and will miss you!✨

At RHTM, it’s all in the details!

Students in HTM 225 Principles of Baking and Pastry with Chef Kai-Sean Lee were able to view a sugar art demonstration. It was great to see such creativity and hard work on display by our faculty.

The second story from our department featured in Torchbearer Magazine was about our exclusive Big Ears Ambassador program.

“Since its founding in 2009 by Ashley Capps (’79), the Big Ears festival has become one of Knoxville’s signature annual events, known for its eclectic programming and attracting music fans from around the world. But for UT students interested in the hospitality and tourism industry, it also presents a valuable opportunity for real-world experience and relationship building.

This year’s festival marked the fourth year of a partnership with UT’s Department of Retail, Hospitality, and Tourism Management to give students hands-on experience working behind the scenes of a large cultural event. Six students worked as ambassadors, performing a variety of essential tasks to help keep the event running smoothly.”
