🐰🌿 Exotic Pet Month Spotlight: Rabbits! 🌿🐰
This week, we're hopping into the wonderful world of rabbits! While many people think of rabbits as low-maintenance pets, they are actually intelligent, social companions that require specialized care to stay happy and healthy.
📜 A Little Rabbit HistoryDomestic rabbits are descendants of the European wild rabbit, which has been living alongside humans for centuries. They were first domesticated over 1,000 years ago and have since become beloved pets around the world. Today, there are more than 300 recognized breeds, ranging from tiny Netherland Dwarfs to giant Flemish Giants!
🩺 Rabbit Care Facts🥬 A rabbit's diet should consist primarily of grass hay, which is essential for healthy digestion and helps wear down their continuously growing teeth.🥕 Fresh leafy greens and a measured amount of high-quality pellets provide important nutrients, while treats like carrots should only be given occasionally.🦷 Rabbit teeth never stop growing, making proper nutrition and regular veterinary checkups extremely important.🏃 Rabbits need daily exercise and plenty of room to hop, explore, and play—not just time in a cage.💙 Rabbits are prey animals and often hide signs of illness. If your bunny stops eating, becomes less active, or produces fewer droppings, it should be seen by a veterinarian as soon as possible.
🎉 Fun Rabbit Facts🐇 A happy rabbit may leap into the air and twist its body in a joyful move called a "binky!"👂 Their large ears don't just help them hear—they also help regulate body temperature.👀 Rabbits have nearly 360-degree vision, allowing them to spot predators from almost every direction.💕 Many rabbits form strong bonds with their families and can even learn their names, come when called, and be litter box trained!
❤️ With proper care, rabbits can live 8–12 years or longer, making them a wonderful long-term companion for families who understand their unique needs.
