We’re officially entering our local growing season, which means the flower cooler starts looking a little different. We’re shifting towards stocking more blooms from our local farms and fewer traditional imported flowers.
Last year about 1/3 of our flowers came from local growers, and our goal is to continue increasing that percentage. It takes a lot of time and education to help folks acclimate to concept of local, seasonally driven floral designs, when the norm is to see standardized arrangements of roses, gerbera daisies, lilies, etc.
Embracing the seasons means leaning into the already ephemeral nature of flowers. It allows each arrangement to be special and unique, but it also requires flexibility and trust in the designer. It’s not for everyone, but we’ve loved showing folks a different approach to florals.
